Pvt. Jareb Palmer

Jareb Palmer was born in Canton, Pennsylvania, in 1838. After graduation he taught school and farmed until 1854 when he moved to Iowa. He obtained a claim in Springfield, MN., and moved there in 1856. He organized against Inkpaduta's renegades the following spring. He then moved back to Iowa where he helped in forming the Frontier Guard. He also carried mail between Spirit Lake and Sioux City, IA.

After his discharge from the cavalry, Mr. Palmer returned to Spirit Lake until 1871 taking a preemptive claim in Jackson County, MN where he resumed farming. In 1882 he bought the northeast quarter of section 26, Rost twp where he farmed until retirement in 1895.

Mr. Palmer held many County Office positions; Supt. Of Schools, Bd of Supervisors, Twp Clerk, and Justice of Peace. He served for11 years as Village Justice in Lakefield, MN where he had retired. Here he died and was buried in 1910.
