Sons Richard J, Philip B; daughter Joyce A. Joan S. Prior to 1918 he was a farmer in Benton County.  1919-1934 a barber, Ottumwa; 1934- Custodian Lake Wapello, Davis Co., this lake is the largest artificial lake in Iowa & 3rd largest state park; Instrumental in conservation & development of wild fowl life in the district. In 1935, command conservation officer; During WW entered the US Army Sept 1918, stationed Camp Dodge 56th machine gun battle, discharged March 1919. BALDRIDGE, MRS KATHERINE: Home economics lecturer, born Bloomfield, IA., Feb 19, 1888; daughter of A J McClure & Josephine Evans. Educated Southern Iowa Normal & Scientific Institute, Drake University. Married Kenneth F Baldridge May 17, 1910 in Bloomfield. Born to them a son, John D and a daughter, Josephine (Mrs Robert S Everett); teacher Bloomfield schools, home economics lecturer for Iowa Newspapers Inc., Reporter and bookkeeper for Bloomfield Democrat, past postal employee, Member Bloomfield civic league. Boles, Allen Harvey:  Hardware Dealer; born in Davis County, Iowa on June 1, 1878; son of C. H. Boles and Nancy M. Brown, Floyd A: Merchant; Born in Davis County, Iowa on December 27, 1889 the son of J. William Brown and Mary York. Education in the rural school and Bloomfield High School in 1909. Brown, Hubert C: County Superintendent of Schools. He was born in Muscatine County, Iowa on December 23, 1864. The son Newton J. Brown and Vesta C. Ferry. Education was in Muscatine and Dallas Counties, Dexter Normal, Western Normal College, Shenandoah, Fort Scott Kansas Community School. He married Lottie I. Carlstedt, Ellworth Theodore: College Dean. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on November 10, 1905. He is the son of Albin Carlstedt and Freda Anderson. His education was at Duluth, Minnesota High School in 1923; Wisconsin St Teachers College, Superior Wisconsin, Bed 1928; University of Iowa, MA 1929; graduate work University of Minnesota 1932-34, University of Wisconsin, summer 1930; Sigma Delta Phi. Dalhgren, Amos T: He was a car salesman. He was born in Wapello County, Iowa on November 28, 1879 to Charles A. Dalhgren and Amanda Thornton. His education was in the rural schools. From 1906-09 he farmed in Van Buren County, Iowa. 1909-28 he was the owner and operator of two farms in Davis County, Iowa, and specialized in stock raising and feeding. 1928-30 retired in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1930-33 was the Davis County Supervisor. 1933-36 member of the Davis County, Iowa board of relief and unemployment. 1936-38 was a Chevrolet salesman in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1938- was a Plymouth and Dodge salesman in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1940- was the mayor of Bloomfield, Iowa. 1923-27 was a Cleveland township trustee. He was a member of the Christian Church and he was a Republican. His hobby was hunting. His office was located in the city hall and lived in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Fenton, Charles Dalton: He was a physician and surgeon. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on July 15, 1904 to Hugh Fenton and Setta VanLandingham. He obtained his education at the Bloomfield High School in 1924, University of Iowa his Master Degree in 1931. He married Elma Lister on September 16, 1932 in Lancaster, Missouri. They had one daughter, Donna Lee. From 1931-32 he was an intern at the W. A. Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Michigan. 1932 he was practicing medicine with Dr. Shelton in Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa. Mississippi Valley and Iowa State Medical Society. Fimmen, Waldo Ralph: He was an attorney. He was born in Des Moines County, Iowa on June 3, 1899 to Henry C. Fimmen and Lilly Bruns. He obtained his education in Des Moines County, Iowa at the Burlington High School in 1919, and the University of Iowa , LLB in 1930, he was a member of the basketball team, and the University of Wisconsin summer courses in law 1924-29. He was a member of the Delta Theta Phi. He married Mildred Wharton on September 26, 1931 in Denmark. They had one daughter, Baraba Jean. From 1922-29 he was a teacher at the Denmark Academy. 1930-35 he practiced law partner of T. P. Bence in firm Bence and Fimmen in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1935 after his partner’s death he practiced law in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1933-39 he was the Davis County attorney. 1922 official of call and high school athletic contests and specialized in basketball and football. 1940 won republican nomination for state representative. He was member of Davis County, District and Iowa State Bar Associations. C of C, Rotary and Country Club, MWA, AF&AM. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and his hobby was flower gardening. His office and residence was in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Forbes, Donald W:  He was a lumber dealer. He was born in Van Buren County, Iowa on May 31, 1902 to Benjamin Forbes and Bessie Austin. He married S. Mabel Austin on November 20, 1926 in Fairfield, Iowa. They had one foster daughter Donna J. Forbes. 1926-26 he was funeral director; 1926-27 he was a glass grinder at Thoma Glass Company; 1927-28 employed by Eclipse Lumber Company in Fairfield, Iowa. 1928-36 was assistant manager, 1936 he was a manager. He was a member of the Davis County Fair Association board; Iowa Retail Lumbermens Association, chairman of Davis County C of C, president since 1939; BPOE; Protestant. Fortune, Charles Eugene:  HE was a seed and feed buyer. He was in Bloomfield, Iowa on November 1, 1886 to Charles D. Fortune and May Taylor. His education was at the Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri 1903-07; University of  Iowa, LLB 1912; Kappa Sigma. He married Florence Corrick on July 26, 1915 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They had one daughter Sally Fortune. 1912-17 partner of T. P. Bence in law practice in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1917-30 with father in wool and seed buying business and other institutes in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1930 after his father’s death owner and operator seed and wool buying business in Bloomfield, Iowa.  1907-17 he was a second letiunant in Missouri National Guard; 1917-36 command for reserve corps of the United States Army; during World War stationed Camp Pike Arkansas, Infantry Officers Training School. Gilfillan, George William: He was a physician and surgeon in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was born in Henry County, Iowa on October 29, 1899 to Dr. Homer J. Gilfillan and Clara Moon. He received his education at Mount Pleasant High School 1918; University of Iowa , MD in 1924; graduate work at Harvard Medical School 1929; Alpha Kappa Kappa; Alpha Omega Alpha. He married Mable Dills on September 29, 1923 in Marion, Iowa. 1924-25 he did internship at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah; 1925-33 practiced medicine in Pulaski, Iowa. 1933 practiced medicine in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1933 he was member staff at St. Joseph and Ottumwa Hospitals; has contributed various papers on medical subjects to Davis and Wapello County Medical Society; 1918 did three months in the SATC at the University of Iowa, 1921 did three months officer training medical corps, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; Davis County, Des Moines Valley and Iowa St Medical Society; AMA; C of C; Country Club; IOOF, AF&AM, RAM. Goode, Dewey E: He was a merchant in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was born in Bloomfield, Iowa on June 2, 1898 to L. E. Goode and Rosa Gravitt. His education was at the Bloomfield High School. He married Ione McIntire on June 10, 1917 in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1917-20 he was a farmer in Davis County, Iowa. 1920-33 he was employed by his father in produce and fur business in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1933 after his father’s death partner of brothers Dean and Doran owner and operator L. E. Goode Produce Company in Bloomfield, Iowa. His father had established this business in 1899 and was one of the outstanding furs buying houses in the Midwest. 1932-40 member of the Iowa House of Rep from Davis County, Iowa. 1940 Republican candidate for senate from Davis and Appanoose Counties. 1939 at 48th general assembly elected speaker pro tem of House of Rep, spokesman for Farm to Market road program; owner and operator 160 A Farm, in Davis, County, Iowa; C of C; Protestant and a Republican. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. Both his grandfather and great-grandfathers pioneered in Davis County. His office and residence was at 203 North Madison, Bloomfield,  Iowa.

Goodell, Floyd Morton: County Agricultural Agent. He was born in Benton County, Iowa on June 17, 1905. The son of Arthur M. Goodell and Mary E. Humphrey. He obtained his education at the Vinton High School 1922 and Iowa State College BSc in agricultural economics in 1939. He married Cecilia Boone on October 6, 1926 in Vinton, Iowa. He married Alleen Reeve Flayharty on December 21, 1937 in Ames, Iowa. They had a foster daughter Carol Virginia. From 1922-26 he was employed with his father on the farm in Benton County, Iowa. 1926-34 he was a farmer, Benton County specialized in dairy herd of Holsteins. 1936-37 and 1938 Wapello County club agent. 1939-40 Warren County club agent. 1940 Davis County agricultural agent in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1930 helped organized and chair member Cedar Valley Farm Business Record Association. Junior C of C. He was a member of the Methodist Church. His hobby was livestock development. His office was located at the Tarrence Building and his residence was in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Gooden, Thomas A.: Thomas was an attorney in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on May 14, 1877 to A. J. Gooden and Maria F. Matthews. He received his education from Southern Iowa Normal School, Omaha Community College in Omaha, Nebraska in 1898; Drake University, LLB 1901. He married Maude M. Harper on January 2, 1900 in Davis County, Iowa. 1906-28 he practiced law partner of Dillion H. Payne in Firm Payne and Goodson in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1928 after his partner’s death private law practice in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1905-09 and 1915-1921 Davis County Attorney; past city attorney; 1934 Democratic candidate for district judge of second judicial district; during World War member draft exemption board of Davis County, minute-man speaker, in county secret service under appointment of United States Attorney General; Davis County, District, Iowa State and American Bar Associations; MWA; IOOF; Methodist Church, trustee many years, 1940 chairman finance committee; Democrat. Grimes, Perry Thomas:  He was a banker. He was born in Smithville, Indiana on October 7, 1872 to Silas Grimes and Susan Gaither. He obtained his education at Bloomington, Indiana: prep department Indiana State University. He married Mary H. Hinkle on June 11, 1914 in Ottumwa, Iowa (December 1937). They had a son Perry T. Grimes, Junior. 1890-92 he was employed in the census department in Washington, DC. 1892-93 he helped organize and reporter on Bloomington Industry Daily Tele, newspaper; 1893-95 he was a bookkeeper for the Spoke and Hub Factory in Bloomington, Indiana. 1895-1902 he was a partner of brother J M in Lincoln Illinois Daily News; 1902-04 employed in business department of Davenport Daily Times; 1904-06 operator family farm, near Smithville, Indiana; 1906-20 owner and editor of Davis County Republican ; 1920-21 retired; 1926-38 editor and publisher for the Booneville, Missouri Daily News; 1928-30 retired; 1930 partner in Sentinel-Tribune Publishing Company in Osceola, pur Osceola Tribune and reported with Osceola Sentinel and formed this company, 1930-32 publisher; 1932 president and executive manager Davis County Savings Bank in Bloomfield, Iowa, past director several years; during World War member Iowa State and Davis County of defense. Guernsey, Newson Evans:  He was a publisher. He was born in Van Buren County, Iowa on September 17, 1868 to Harry C. Guernsey and Rebeccah Evans. He obtained his education at the Davis and Van Buren Counties School, Southern Iowa Normal and the Bloomfield High School in 1889. He married Kate Linaberry on March 5, 1895 in Bloomfield, Iowa (December 1930).  1889-90 assistant Post Master and store clerk in Brownie, Arizona; 1890-91 employed in printing office in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1891-95 in Milton, Iowa. 1895-1930 was owner and operator Milton Herald; 1930-32 retired; 1932-1935 employed by Keosauqua Republican; 1935 was publisher Milton Herald; 1938 Iowa State representative from Van Buren County in 39th general assembly, now a candidate for re-election; 1926-29 president Milton School Board; 1920-26, 1928-30 and 1936-38 was the mayor; 1912-18 president and manager Milton Agricultural Society and Fair; KP; Pythian Sisters; IOOF; OES; AF&AM; Methodist Church; Republican. His hobby was music. Mr. Guernsey made the run for land during the great rush into the Oklahoma when it was entered for settlement April 25, 1889, he settled on a claim two miles northwest of Oklahoma, later the University of Oklahoma was built on this land. His residence was in Milton, Iowa.

Harris, Donald Woodrow: He was an attorney.  He was born in Bloomfield, Iowa on January 14, 1912 to David E. Harris and Ethel I. Wisdom. He obtained his education Bloomfield High School 1928; Bloomfield Junior College 1928-30; University of Iowa, BA 1932, JD 1934; Gamma Etta Gamma. He married Helen J. Paine on June 3, 1937 in Marengo, Iowa. They had one daughter Martha Jane Harris. 1934-35 practiced law with Stephens and Wisdom in Des Moines, Iowa. 1935 practiced law in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1938 was the Davis County Attorney; Davis County Bar Association, sectary since 1935; District and Iowa State Bar Association; Junior C of C; C of C; Country Club; IOOF; AF&AM; member of the Methodist Church, member of finance committee since 1938; Democrat; president of YD Club 1935-36. His hobbies included: hunting, fishing and athletics. His office was located in the Terremce Building and his residence in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Heady, Conda C C: He was a physician and surgeon. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on October 24, 1861 to Gabriel J. Heady and Leah E. Conner. He received his education from rural schools; Keokuk College of Physicians and Surgeons, MD 1889; graduate work Post Graduate Medical School and Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in 1902. He married Ella Ware on October 1, 1882 in Davis County, Iowa. They had the following sons: Clarence L. Heady, Glenn D. Heady and a daughter Maude (deceased), Roxie (Mrs. James Dunn). Sullivan, Sanford Lowell:  Executive Vice-President Poultry Equipment Company. He was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska on June 20, 1900 to Robert Darr Sullivan and Winnie L. Armstrong. His education was at Bloomfield High School in 1920; Des Moines University 1921-22; Sigma Phi Kappa. He married Florence E Priest on April 18, 1926 in Bloomfield. They had a foster son Robert Lowell and a foster daughter Janet Sue. 1920-21 and 1922-23 clerk in shoe store in Bloomfield; 1923-30 salesman for Barker Poultry Equipment Company of Ottumwa, 1930- Vice-President in charge of collections, 1924 Vice-President in Bloomfield; 1930-operated family farm established 772 A in Davis County, specialized in livestock; he was rotary president 1940; Country Club; Methodist Church and a republican. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, agricultural development. Grandfather Benjamin Armstrong settled in Davis County in 1856 and resided there until his death in 1940, and he was the last Civil War veteran of Davis County and his grandmother Armstrong was still living in Davis County. His office was located in Ottumwa and his residence was located in Bloomfield.

Swartzendruver, Victor E:  Farmer; He was born in Pulaksi, Iowa on January 16, 1898 to John A Swartzendruver and Lina Eicher. He obtained his education in Bloomfield High School 1918; Bluffton College in Bluffton, Ohio in 1919; University of Iowa 1919-20. He married Edna Baughman on May 8, 1921 in Pulaski. They had one son John W. 1920-22 in advertising department Chariton Leader; 1922-27 editor of the Herald-Patriot; 1927 farmer in Grove township; during World War enlisted in June 1918 in the United States 73rd coast arterly corps, Fort McKinley Maine, O/S September 1918 to Hausimont France and to specialist electrical school, Mailley, retired to United States, discharge in July 1919 at Camp Dodge. He was a member of the Mennonite Church and Republican. Residence was Route 2, Bloomfield.

Taylor, Heinrich C:  Judge of District Court. He was born in Bloomfield, Iowa on August 6, 1898 to Henry C. Taylor and Helen W. Steckel. He obtained his education at Bloomfield High School 2 ½ years; Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut 1914-16; Princeton University, BA 1920; University of Iowa 1920-22; Campus Club; Triangle Club; Phi Kappa Psi; Phi Delta Phi. He married Opal Lorenz on July 12, 1928 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They had a son, Heinrick C. Taylor, Junior. Admitted to Iowa State Bar in 1922; 1922-34 partner of father in law practice in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1939- after his father’s death practiced law in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1939 was judge of the 2nd judicial district; 1936-39 member board of education in Bloomfield, Iowa,  president 1937-38; 1936-38 city attorney; during World War enlisted in naval aviation corps, called November 10, 1918 stationed Dunwoody naval training school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, discharge on November 18, 1918; Davis County District and Iowa State Bar Associations; C of C; Rotary, president 1938-39; Country Club, president 1927-30; AF-AM; Methodist Church and Republican. His hobbies were golf and travel. His office was located in the Nation Bank Building and his residence in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Taylor, Mrs. Helen:  She was a homemaker. She was born in Bloomfield, Iowa to Amos Steckel and Ellen White. She obtained her education at the Southern Iowa Normal; Oberlin College in Ohio; Zeta Phi Eta. She married Henry C. Taylor on June 24, 1896 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They had a son, Judge Heinrick C Taylor and the following daughters: Ellen White, and Sarah Rachel. 1928-32 corresponding secretary for the GFWC; IFWC, president 1923-25; Vice President of Iowa Good Roads Association; PEO; Women’s Federated Clubs; Country Club; Congl Church and a Republican. Her hobbies were gardening and community theater activities. Her residence was in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Thomas, Lauren Daniel: He was a clergyman. He was born I Crawford County, Iowa on October 4, 1900 to E. L. Thomas and Elizabeth MacWhirter. His education was obtained at Dow City High School in 1918; Iowa State College in 1919-21; Simpson College, BA 1923; Boston University School of Theology, STB 1928, STM 1929. He married Alta M. Fight on August 15, 1926 in Derby, Iowa. They had the following sons: Elwood L. Thomas, Duane L. Thomas and Melvin L. Tucker, Mrs. Eunice Bourn: She was a homemaker. She was born in Scotland County, Missouri on February 26, 1899 to John D. Bourn and Ida C. Leeper. She obtained her education in rural schools; La Grange Academy and College in La Grange, Missouri 1924; active in literary work; Alpha Psi Literary Society, won gold award as 1st prize achievement. She married Ross H. Tucker on October 30, 1921 in Scotland County, Missouri. They had a son, Charles Ross Tucker and a daughter, Eunice Jean Tucker. 1915-20 school teacher in Scotland County, Missouri; 1921 a homemaker; 1940 appointed Mission Study director Pleasant Grove Missouri Association; Ottumwa Scribblers League; DAR; Richland Baptist Church and a Republican. Tucker, Ross Harlie: Farmer and stockman. He was born in Scotland County, Missouri on November 29, 1898 to Henry H. Tucker and Alma F. Foster. He obtained his education at rural school; La Grange Academy and College in La Grange. He married Eunice Bourn on October 30, 1921 in Scotland County, Missouri. They had a son, Charles Ross Tucker and a daughter Eunice Jean Tucker. Prior to 1921 farmer in Scotland County, Missouri; 1921-32 operator 300 A of family farm land, specialized in feeding beef cattle; 1933-34 Davis County representative of Iowa State Corn of Beef Cattle Producers; 1934-35 member United States Livestock Association, these organizations fought including of beef cattle in AAA program, were successful; Baptist Church, deacon since 1923 and Republican. His hobby was athletics. His residence was Route 2, Bloomfield, Iowa.

Vaughn, J. Burt: He was an automobile dealer. He was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1888 to John E. Vaughn and Emma Eckels. He obtained his education at Franklin Pennsylvania High School. He married Dorothy McCollough on October 11, 1911 in Chariton, Iowa. They had a son, James R. Wagler, Clarence Elmer: He was a furniture dealer and mortician. He was born in Pulaski, Iowa on May 19, 1887 to Joseph M. Wagler and Barbara Naffziger. He obtained his education at Pulaski; Hahenschuh-Carpenter College of Mortuary Science in Des Moines, Iowa in 1908. He married Ethel L. Finch on December 23, 1908 in Pulaski, Iowa. His hobby was fishing. His grandfather Wagler homestead in Davis County Iowa before Civil War. His office and residence was located in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Warner, Vanda G: He was the secretary-treasurer for the Farm Loan Association. He was born in Van Buren County, Iowa on August 2, 1876 to Franklin F. Warner and Abigail Denning. He obtained his education at the Southern Iowa Normal School in 1898; Iowa State College, short courses various times 1915-25. He married Maud Fortune on February 2, 1899 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They had a daughter, Mabel Warner (Mrs. Doran Goode).  1898-1915 farmer in Davis County; specialized in purebred livestock and poultry; 1899-1939 exhibitor  of Wyandotte chickens, Perkin ducks and Bronze turkeys at Iowa State Fair and 1917-37 superintendent of poultry, Iowa State Fair; 1931 secured American Poultry Association judge’s license and since judge of many poultry shows in Midwest; 1925-36 established and operator of chicken hatchery in Bloomfield, Iowa, 1936 wife manager; 1905 organizer and president first Davis County Institution, corn show; 1908 organizer and president first Davis County Short Course on farm products; 1905 helped organize and secretary first Davis County rural tele line, Stuben line; 1924-25 partner in Davis County Abstract Business; 1933 secretary and treasurer Davis and Appanoose Counties National Farm Loan Association in Bloomfield, Iowa; one of the oldest polled Delaine Merino sheep breeders in Iowa specialized in development of that breed; 1918 an organized Davis County Farm Bureau, 1918-20 first county agent; Iowa Wool Growers Association, secretary-treasurer 1920-24; Iowa Poultry Improvement Association Board, director many years; American Poultry Association, director judges section 1940; AF&AM; Cristian Church and Democrat. Welch, Arthur B:  He was a pharmacist. He was born in Bloomfield, Iowa on October 11, 1878 to John B. Welch and Roena Bell. His education was obtained in Bloomfield in 1896; University of Iowa in 1900-01. He married Maude A Ferguson on May 27, 1903 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They had a son, William B. Welch. 1900 passed pharmacy board exams, clerk and registered pharmacist for Gibbons and McAchran in Bloomfield, Iowa, 1917 owner and operator drug store in Bloomfield, Iowa. 1910-14 he was city clerk for Bloomfield, Iowa. 1932 member city council, 1935 member advisory board of Davis County NYA; C of C; Rotary; Methodist Church and Republican. His hobbies were fishing and music. His office and residence was in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Wilson, Howard Bryan: Publisher. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on May 11, 1907 to Silas W. Wilson and Florence Bryan. He obtained his education at Albia High School in 1925; Parsons College 1925-26; University of Iowa, BJ 1929; Phi Delta Theta. He married Dorothy Powell on July 25, 1931 in Newton, Iowa. 1929-30 employed in advertising department Davis County Republican and Bloomfield Democrat; 1930-32 editor Davis County Republican  in Bloomfield; 1932 president Davis County Republican Company and business manager of both papers; 1938 member of board of education; C of C; secretary 1933-37; Southern Iowa Regional Tuberculosis Association, Vice President 1938; Rotary; BPOE; AF&AM; RAM; Methodist Church and Republican. Secretary County Republican Central Committee since 1932. His hobbies were golf, politics and photography. His office was the newspaper and residence was at 308 West Jefferson, Bloomfield, Iowa.

Wishard, Henry Arthur: Retired. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on February 25, 1859 to William Wishard and Margaret Breeding.  His education was obtained at Davis County. He married Dora Bell Devault on October 14, 1880 in Bloomfield, Iowa (December 1935). They had the following children: a son, Harry A. Wishard, and the following daughters; Ollie Dell Wishard (Mrs. P. H. Palmer, Hazel M. Wishard (Mrs. Edgar Hall). He married Florence Hill Young on November 2, 1936 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They left an orphan when 10 years old. 1869-72 made home with brother; 1872-80 worked on farms, odd jobs and clerk in various Iowa towns; 1873 walked over south-east Iowa selling patent medicine; 1880-81 owner and operator grocery and Queensware store in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1881-82 was a farmer in Davis County, Iowa; 1882-83 partner in dry goods store Howard-Wishard and Mowrie in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1883-84 partner of brother-in-law J. B. Lester in grocery store in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1884 he raised 85 homestead sheep and cattle raiser in Lane County, Kansas; 1885-86 owner and operator Pioneer Labor Yard in Dighton, Kansas, labor stock hauled overland 65 miles from Wakeeney, Kansas; 1886 started first brickyard, burning brick with coal hauled from garden City, Kansas, first brick ever burned in west half of Kansas; 1886-90 operator real estate, brokerage and building business in Dighton, Kansas; 1887 built and operated The Wishard Opera House in Dighton, Kansas; 1890-1925 owner and operator the general store later developed into shoe store in Bloomfield, Iowa; 1917-24 owner and operated the Wishard Theater in Bloomfield, Iowa, and is now the Iowa Theater; 1918-24 owner and operator of the Wishard Hotel in Bloomington; past owner and operator of the wagon and buggy, auto, harness shop, café, building and contracting, had built more than 100 buildings in Bloomfield and Dighton, Kansas;1917 he was the owner and operator of the H. A. Wishard Oil Company in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was the first man to advocate tax on gasoline as large source of revenue which made it possible for present good highway systems, and he is known as father of the gasoline tax in the United States, Oregon was the first state to put the gas tax law into effect and was made effective on Mr. Wishard’s 60th birthday on February 25, 1919. The original tax he suggested and which was first used was 2 cents. He belonged to the Methodist Church and was a Republican. His hobbies were swimming and flower garden. His house was built from wood coming from family home farm in Davis County. The home consisted of eight different varieties of native timber, white oak, red oak, walnut, cherry, maple, birch, osage hedge and honey locust. All the wood came from Davis County except for one hedge tree that came from Van Buren County. The house represents material value of $15,000 and has been insured with the Western Mutual more than 15 years. The insurance publication carried picture of Mr. Wishard in the April issue. His residence was located on West Jefferson in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Young, Mrs. Benona:  She was a homemaker. She was born in Davis County, Iowa on September 23, 1893 to B. N. Schlegel and Mary E. Scarborough. Her education was obtained in the rural schools; Southern Normal and the University of Iowa in 1911-13. She married Ephraim Young on May 5, 1915 in Davis County, Iowa. She was a school teacher in 1913 in Davis County, Iowa. 1915 she was a homemaker in Davis County. Iowa. 1915-20 she was an active campaigner for Woman’s Suffrage in Southeast Iowa. She belonged to the following clubs: American auxiliary, women’s Federation Club (chairman 1922-26, president in 1928), TTT, DAR, Delphian Reading Club, OES. She belonged to the Methodist Church and was a democrat. Her hobbies were gardening and politics. Her residence was Route 3, Bloomfield, Iowa.

Young, Ephraim: He was a farmer. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on February 12, 1888 to Charles Young and Martha Bridges. He obtained his education in Bloomfield and Southern Iowa Normal. He married Benona Schlegel on May 5, 1915 in Davis County, Iowa. In 1915 he was a farmer in Davis County, Iowa. 1936-38 he was vice president of the Davis County Agriculture Association Fair, and in 1939-40 he was president. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the AF&AM. He belonged to the Christian Church and was a democrat. His hobby was saddle horse training. His residence was Route 2, Bloomfield, Iowa.

Young, Henry Clay:  He was a physician and surgeon. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on July 11, 1869 to J. W. Young and Eliza Ferguson. He obtained his education in Bloomfield 1887; University of Iowa in 1887-88; American College of Dental Surgery in 1889 in Chicago, Illinois; Keokuk Medical College, MD in 1891; graduate work at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Alma Taylor on November 26, 1891. They had the following children: a son, Herbert C. Young (December 1938) and a daughter, Miriam (Mrs. Carl Melcher, December 1938). He practiced a dentist in Moulton during 1888-89; 1891 he practiced medicine in Bloomfield. He was member of the following organizations: member board of education in Bloomfield, Iowa, member city council; Davis County Coroner; city health officer; Iowa State Medical Societies; Davis County Medical Society, secretary many years; AF&AM. He belonged to the Methodist Church and was a trustee for many years and a Democrat. His hobby was antiques. His office and residence was located in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Younkin, Ernest Lee:  He was a dairy farmer. He was born in Davis County, Iowa on December 26, 1879 to William S. Younkin and Mary A. Peden. He obtained his education in the rural school. He married Stella E. Monroe on September 23, 1903 in Davis County, Iowa. They had a son, LaVerne L. Younkin. Prior to 1903 he operated his father’s farm in Woodson County, Kansas; 1903-09 partner of father-in-law on the farm in Davis County, Iowa; 1909-10 farmer in Laclede County, Missouri; 1910-14 partner of father-in-law on the G. W. Monroe farm in Davis County, Iowa; 1914-16 farmer in Blue Mound, Kansas; 1916 owner and operator of 118 A farm in Bloomfield, 1923 owner and operator additional 40 A specialized in Jersey cattle and dairy farming; past Perry township clerk for two terms; 1923 member Davis County Farm bureau, 1930-31 president, treasurer since 1933; 1939 he was a member County Tenant Purchase Committee; AAA, township committee member 1934; Baptist Church a past trustee and a Democrat. His residence was Route 1 in Bloomfield, Iowa.
