Mr. Schultz was one of the early pioneers of this country, having come here when it was
but a wilderness, and he witnessed its remarkable growth to a community of life, beauty
and prosperity. It was his ambition to always build up and never tear down, and to his
great forethought, energy and ability, can be laid the many big improvements that were
wrought under his guiding hand. August Schultz built the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in
Hanover Township in 1889.
He was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta (Hattie) Fink in Chicago in 1867. Hattie Fink
Schultz was born in Chicago, Illinois on the 26th of September, 1847. Her family owned a
candy and chocolate factory in Chicago. She died in Schleswig, Iowa on July 20, 1913 at
the age of 65 years.
