The Echelon Cafe and Tavern at Garnavillo owned by John Ebbe was raided Saturday evening about 7:30. A quantity of whiskey and wine, punchboards and other gambling devices were confiscated. Ebbe pleaded guilty to keeping intoxicating liquor in a tavern with a class B permit. Judge G. B. Richter imposed a fine of $300 and a three months' jail sentence. The jail sentence was suspended during good behavior and the defendant paroled to the Sheriff. one-hundred dollars of the fine was remitted.

Harry Fogel, 35 of Edgewood, Maurice Toomer 21 and Donald Kuemmerer, 19, both of Cedar Rapids, appeared before Judge G. B. Richter Tuesday charged with larceny. They were sentenced to a year each in the county jail. The three men had been arrested in connection with the robbery of Maggart's garage last summer.

Virgil Petsche, 17, of Elkader, was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail and released on good behavior Tuesday afternoon, after having appeared before Justice Ray Barton on an assault charge.

Melvin Corson, Mederville, was fined $10 and costs in Justice Ehrhardt's court Monday, April 23, on an assault and battery charge brought by Henry Kahr of Littleport.

Otto Doeppke was fined $300. and sentenced to three months in the county jail by Judge Goheen on June 04. Doeppke was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Upon payment of $150. the balance was suspended and he was paroled on good behavior. Doeppke, a resident of Clayton Center, was arrested on June 02.

Pete Larson was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail for intoxication Friday in a Monona court.

C. W. Roling was apprehended Saturday on the charge of writing and uttering a false check. He was taken before Justice of the Peace George Ehrhardt Monday and was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail. Previously Roling had written bad checks in Allamakee county and in the area around Lancaster, Wis.

Herbert Tackman, Guttenberg, was fined $90. and costs Wednesday Aug. 15, for reckless driving, by Justice Ray Barton.

Duane Gray, Edgewood, pleaded guilty Tuesday, Aug. 28, to the charge of reckless driving. He was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail. Justice of the Peace George Ehrhardt presided at the hearing.

Lloyd Harbaugh, Guttenberg, was arrested Aug. 22 and brought before Justice of the Peace George Ehrhardt and found guilty of assault and battery. He was released after paying a fine and costs of $41.

C. H. Roling, who completed a 30-day sentence Tuesday for uttering a false check, was brought before Justice George Ehrhardt that day and given another 30-day sentence on the same charge, involving another check.

Walter Bush of Winona, Minn., and Russell Marr, a railroad employee, were brought before Justice Ray Barton on a charge of assault and battery. Bush was arrested at Lakeside and was fined $40. and costs. Marr was also arrested at Lakeside and charged with two counts of assault and battery. Marr was fined $100. and costs on each case.

Seven men were found guilty of affray, Tuesday, in a hearing before Justices of the Peace Ray Barton and George Ehrhardt. The hearing came following a fight which occurred at Communia during a shower Monday evening. Barton tried R. Livingston, Delbert Rentschler and Lloyd Johamingmeier. Livingston was fined $10. and costs, while the other two received a fine of $5. and costs. Pat Livingston, Alvin Berns, Rex Young and LaVerle Rentschler were tried by Ehrhardt and each fined $5. and costs.

Justice of the Peace George Ehrhardt, Thursday, presided over the hearing of three men involved in truck driving without a chauffer's license. Dale Kramer was fined $5.00 and costs for allowing an unlicensed chauffer to drive while Alton Minger and Charles Herman were each fined $25. 00 and costs for driving without licenses.

LaVerne Duwe, Guttenberg, is now serving a 30 day sentence in the county jail on the charge of intoxication. Duwe was brought to Elkader Sunday following his conviction at a hearing presided over by E. F. Nuehring of Guttenberg.

Jim Henkes and Justin Wook were found guilty of assault and battery by Justice Ehrhardt in Justice Court Monday morning. Both men were fined $10. and costs, and Henkes was fined an addition of $5. and costs on the charge of affray. The men were arrested in Guttenberg by William Harbaugh.

Ed Winch, Guttenberg, was found guilty of larceny when brought before District Judge W. H. Antes, Monday. Winch, who was taken into custody on information filed by County Attorney H. K. Roggensack was charged with taking a gun from the Gene Eberhardt tavern on January 16. Winch was sentenced with the provision that after serving three months of his term the rest of the sentence would be suspended and he would be paroled to the sheriff pending good behavior.

Hazel Rademacher, Guttenberg, was fined $25.00 and costs on a cruelty to animals charge at a hearing before Justice of the Peace George Ehrhardt, Monday, April 08.

Karl F. Burkhart, 24, Elkader, was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail Wednesday after pleading guilty to an assault and battery charge. Inured in the incident which occurred at Volga the night of May 13 and 14 was Harold Peterson, St. Olaf.

Three men were found guilty of intoxication at justice court hearings in Elkader recently.
Lawrence Larson, Postville, was fined $10.00 and costs at a trial before Justice Ray Barton after being arrested Sunday evening.
Justice George Ehrhardt fined Christ Jensen $5.00 and costs for intoxication after a Friday, May 24th arrest.
Clarence Seeland was fined $10.00 and costs by Justice Barton for intoxication after an arrest on Sunday, May 19.

Two men were arrested this week and charged with driving a motor vehicle intoxicated. Leo Bishke Guttenberg, and Donald Wittenburg, from south of Strawberry Point, appeared before Judge W. H. Antes, Monday morning. Wittenberg had been arrested Friday night, and Bishke, Saturday. Both were fined $300. and costs.

At a hearing before Judge W. H. Antes, Walter Weiss, Garnavillo, was fined $300. on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Weiss was arrested Wednesday, July 17.

In a hearing Friday afternoon, Gayle Maggart and Vernon Shaw Jr., were found guilty of intoxication and sentenced to 30 days in jail by Justice Ray Barton.

William Wilson was fined $10. by Justice of the Peace Ehrhardt on an intoxication charge.

Lester Taake, Elkader, appeared before Justice George Ehrhardt Monday on a charge of reckless driving, was found guilty, and paid a fine of $10. and costs.

Oscar Possehl, Elkader, appeared before Justice Ehrhardt the same day on a charge of assault and battery, was found guilty, and paid a fine of $10. and costs.

Marion Blietz, Monona, was fined in Justice George Ehrhardt's court in Elkader $100. and costa for reckless driving when he failed to slow down for a motor accident on highway 13 west of McGregor. Blietz's car struck a car driven by John Grady, Monona farmer, after Grady's car and a car containing Wilfred Barthelme, Ferd Barthelme, and Emerentine Barthelme of Ossian, had collided.
