George Russell and Herbert McMullen, both of McGregor, were fined $25 and costs in justice court at Guttenberg by Justice C. P. Luther, last Saturday morning on a charge of disorderly conduct. Because neither was able to pay the fine they were sentenced to serve fifteen days in the county jail here and are now lodged in the county bastille.

Only one jury trial was held in Judge W. L. Eichendorf's court here this week, that of State of Iowa vs. Fred Bird, the latter charged with forgery. The jury returned a verdict of Guilty and sentence is to be passed on the defendant Tuesday, May 24th. Jim Shale, who was arrested on a charge of bootlegging, waived the grand jury, and pled guilty to the charge of bootlegging. He was sentenced by Judge Eichendorf to five months in the county jail and was fined three hundred dollars.

In the May term of District Court, up to May 19, criminal causes:
State of Iowa vs. H. M. Vorwald on a charge of maintaining a liquor nuisance. Defendant plead guilty and was sentenced to six months in the county jail and fined $500. Vorwald represented that this was his first liquor law violation so the judge suspended jail sentence. Later, however, it was found that Vorwald had been convicted of a liquor law violation at Manchester, July 18, 1922, and so he was taken into custody again and is now lodged in the county jail to serve out his sentence.

State of Iowa vs. Harry Abel. Defendant plead guilty to the charge of illegal possession of intoxicating liquor and was sentenced to three months in the county jail and fined $300.

James Shadle plead guilty to the charge of maintaining a liquor nuisance and was fined $300. and sentenced to three months in the county jail. Sentence, however was suspended during good behavior and he was paroled to Sheriff Chris Larson.

Lawrence Schultz, accused of illegal possession of intoxicating liquor was sentenced to the county jail for three months and fined $300. His sentence was suspended during good behavior and he was paroled to C. M. Brooks, of McGregor.
