Apr. 1893. District Court column. John Hanley and Wallace plead guilty as charged and were sentenced to three months hard labor at Anamosa. Lonne Raw, alias Black Diamond, also plead guilty to the indictment and was sentenced to Anamosa for one year. --- Elkader Register, Thur., 13 July 1893. Elkport column. Wm. and Ed. Holenceck, of Edgewood, were brought up before Judge Kriebs Friday on a charge of disorderly conduct. It cost the boys $18. for their frolic. --- Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Sept. 1893. District Court column. State vs. James Murphy, Geo. Benson and James Burns, for burglary. Murphy and Burns plead guilty and were sentenced to eighteen months in the penitentiary. Continued as to Benson (see November below) --- Elkader Register, Thur., 23 Nov. 1893. State vs. Wm. Siebertz et al, plea of guilty entered. Wm. Siebertz fined $50. and John Siebertz $100. State vs. David Ray, indictment for stealing a hog. Trial by jury, who found a verdict of guilty, and fixed the value of the hog at $27.50. Prisoner sentenced to six months in the penitentiary and to pay the cost of suit. State vs. Geo. Benson, indicted for breaking into a car at North McGregor, was given a jury trial and found guilty. sentenced to the penitentiary for two years. State vs Chas Norton, the defendant plead guilty to an assault to commit great bodily injury. Judgement suspended. State vs Ben Brown for adultery was tried by jury and defendant found guilty. Sentenced to the penitentiary for a term of two years. Alice Stone, who was indicted on the same charge, plead guilty and was sentenced to the county jail for 45 days --- Elkader Register, Thur., 21 Dec. 1893. Dick Coats got on a high old lonesome at East Elkport last Thursday. He was arrested and Judge Buck gave him three days in the county jail. Rather hard on Dick. A warrant was issued last Thursday for Louis Schroeder, of Guttenberg. Constable Needham went over and got him. Louis was bled to the tune of fifty dollars and costs for assaulting Ed Smith without cause or provocation. A young man by the name of Borcherding, of Guttenberg, was arrested by Constable Needham Friday and taken before Judge Buck on a charge of assault and battery on John Downey. Mr. Borcherding paid twenty-five dollars and costs for his sport. |
