Brock, William B.

William B. Brock, M. D., a successful and prosperous physician and surgeon has resided in Olin since1887. He has an excellent and rapidly increasing practice in the neighborhood and is well known as an able, intelligent and energetic citizen, worthy of confidence and esteem.

Our subject was born in Clayton County, this state, near Guttenberg, August 27, 1861, and is the son of John Brock, a native of Terre Haute, Indiana. The later when coming west settled near Guttenberg, where he still resides at the age of sixty-seven years. He is recognized as one of the intelligent as well as successful citizens of Clayton County, and enjoys the confidence of the business community and commands the esteem of his neighbors. He married Miss Sarah Crawford, also a native of Terre Haute, Indiana and a most estimable lady, who has aided him greatly in attaining his present standing in the community.

William B. of the sketch spent his boyhood days upon his father’s farm and received his early education in the common schools. In 1880 he entered Upper Iowa University at Fayetteville, where he was a student for two years. When leaving this institution young Brock began reading medicine under the instruction of Dr. K. T. Purdy, of Elkader, this state, remaining in his office for two summers. During the winter 1882-1883 our subject took a course of lectures in the State University at Iowa City and soon after entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago, from which he was graduated with the class of ’86 with the degree of Doctor of Medicine.

In the summer of 1887 Dr. Brock located for practice in Olin. In his medical views he is very liberal and does not feel bound to any school either in theory or practice, although he is considered a Regular. His services are often called late requisition as a writer for current medical publications, and he takes a deep interest in literary matters in general. The Doctor belongs to the Iowa State Medical and also the American Medical Associations. Socially he is connected with Meridian Lodge no. 225, K. F. , of which he is a charter member. In politics he is a straight forward Republican and has represented his party as delegate to various conventions. In 1892 he was elected a member of the Town Council, which office he is still holding and gives perfect satisfaction in the manner in which he discharges the duties devolving upon him.

October 14, 1885 Dr. William B. Brock and Miss Lizzie Selder, a native of West Union, this state, were united in marriage. Mrs. Brock is the daughter of William Elder, an old and prominent resident of Fayette County. To the Doctor and his wife has been born one son, Victor. Mrs. Brock is a member in good standing of the United Brethren Church, and is active in in all good works in her neighborhood.
