A crowd estimated at 5,000 enthusiastically applauded the 650 musicians taking part in a massed band Tuesday night at Roosevelt stadium, bringing the North Iowa band festival and Iowa State Bandmasters' convention to a close. Musicians are shown seated in a huge semicircle around the bandstand on which the municipal band was seated at the time the photograph was taken. Aisles of the stadium were packed and hundreds stood on the fence. In taking this picture, one of the photographers wore a hood for protection as 11 times the amount of flashlight powder ordinarily used on a large interior scene was set off, the report being heard well above the music played at the time. (Photo by Lock, Kayenay Engraving.)

Among the outstanding floats was that of the Music Mothers, showing "Musical Progress." Jacqueline Hanson and Bonnie Zack are holding trumpets on the float of white. A large lyre is behind them. This float was designed by Mrs. Frank Hanson and Mrs. H. E. Kennedy. (Photo by Lock, Kayenay Engraving.)
Before entering the stadium at the Roosevelt field Tuesday night for the closing band festival event, several of the bands engaged in maneuvers for ther mutual enjoyment. The Osage band, as shown above, in green and white uniforms, marching in formation.
