Mason City's historic downtown district includes late 19th and early 20th centural commercial architecture buildings. Also, Frank Lloyd Wright's only remaining Prairie School hotel, Park Inn, is located in this district. The district was designated at one of 10 Great Neighborhoods in America in 2013.

Mason City's historic downtown district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 8, 2005.
