Springdale School Graduates Eight

Several West Branch persons attended the commencement exercises at Springdale Friday evening at which time eight boys and girls received diplomas. The Springdale school, originally known as the Springdale Seminary, is one of the oldest schools in this part of the state, and was distinguished as one of the best in the early times. Graduates from Springdale were the first pupils admitted to scholarship in the state university without previous examination, following the ruling regarding accredited schools. The standards at Springdale have remained uniformly high throughout the years.

W. W. Weatherwax of Cedar Rapids gave the commencement address on the subject, “The Throwback.” Music was furnished by high musicians and awards for scholarship were presented by Supt. F. A. McCoy. Lela Sondergard and Harold Stotler were the honor pupils.

W. R. Branson, of the Board of Education, presented diplomas to Wilma Fogg, Emma Leona Lendt, Golda Maurine Millett, Raymond B. Murray, Bernice Sell, Lela Marie Sondergard, Clara M. Stafford and Charles Harold Stotler.
