Springdale Commencement Held Thursday, May 22

The fifty-fourth annual commencement exercises of the Springdale schools were held in the school auditorium Thursday evening of last week, the address being given by Dr. Thomas J. Kirby of Iowa City.

A class of nine received their diplomas at this time. The graduates were Gertrude Harbit, Genevieve Millett, Alfred J. Jensen, Herschel Gray, Virginia Schneider, Louis Christensen, Mabel Atkins, Donald Mather, Hazel Atkins, Donald Mather, Hazel Small. The president of the school board, W. r. Branson, presented the diplomas.

The superintendent, F. B. Curran, also presented diplomas to the graduates from the eighth grade, at this time.

Music for the commencement exercises was furnished by the school orchestra.

The Springdale graduates had chosen as their motto, “With the ropes of the past we ring the bells of the future.” Their class flower was the California poppy, and their colors were scarlet and black.
