Auction At School
DURANT, Iowa – The Durant school district will hold a public auction Aug. 25 to sell the contents of the existing Middle School building, which is scheduled for demolition Sept. 3. The building is being razed to make way for a new high school and physical education complex approved by Durant voters last November when they approved a $1.7 million bond issue.
Supt. R. K. Lauger said no classroom or office furniture now in use will be sold at auction. About 75 old school desks, some antique, and some 50 elementary school size chairs will be sold, however. All other items of furniture and equipment have been removed to other areas of the school to be used during the coming school year.
Other items to be auctioned include slate blackboards, fluorescent fixtures and tubes, 35 steam radiators and pipes, 35 interior doors, with hinges and knobs, 95 windows frames, sash, and glass, pipe and sprinkler heads for fire sprinkler system, three iron fire escapes, maple flooring from 10 classrooms and three offices, hall banisters, antique coat hooks, a few sinks and lavatories.
The auction will begin at 12:30 p.m.
