DID YOU

Did you ever listen to
The song the pencils sing
When your’e settin in the assembly
And your mind is wondering?

When everyone is studious
And busy, but you,
And the clock is ticking minutes,
And books are slamming too?

Well, just the same I have,
And its very interesting
To look around the ‘sembly
And not to do a thing.

But once in a while I study
And sometimes I sing
When I have assignments,
And there’s glee club practicing.

CHOICE

I had rather be a “Could-Be”
If I couldn’t be an “Are,”
For a “Could-Be” is a “May-Be”
With a chance of reaching par.
I had rather be a “Has-Been”
Than a “Might-Have Been,” by far
For a “Might-Have-Been” has never been,
And the “Has-Been was once an “Are”.

MOM

If I were but a Whistler
I’d paint my tribute, too,
For who could be more beautiful
More loving and more true
Than one I call my Mom?

If I were but an Emerson
I’d write a tribute, dear,
For who could have a voice
More musical to hear
Than one I call my Mom?

If I were but a Bing Crosby
I’d sing a tribute, sweet,
For who could have a taste with which
More evenly to treat
Than one I call my Mom?

As long as I am none of these
I’ll give a tribute, love,
For who could be a better pal
On earth or up above
Than one I can my Mom?

OUR MOTHER

Dear Mother in heaven
We think of you today,
A one who loved her children
But whose life was taken away.

God asked for you when we were young
Too small to know the meaning
Of the worry we had caused you,
When our young life was glowing.

Since the time you entered heaven,
We’ve gone onto school,
Wondering what will happen
When we meet life’s whirling pool.

As we wonder on in life
Without you as a guide,
I think of all the fun we miss
Since you’re not by our side.

As our life rolls along
I wonder what it will be
When we meet in heaven—
Just God, you and me.
