MRS. G. H. LEWIS PASSED AWAY ON APRIL 30TH

Funeral Held Tuesday Afternoon with Rev. Klopping in Charge. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery

Mrs. George H. Lewis died suddenly at her home in Eagle Grove last Saturday. While she had not been in the best of health, her passing was unexpected and a shock to her family. Estella Ely, the oldest daughter of George and Carrie Ely, was born near Webster City, Iowa, March 30, 1867. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity and on Feb. 3, 1892 she was united in marriage to Geo. H. Lewis. They moved immediately to their farm in Head Grove where they lived for nearly 38 years. In the fall of 1929, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis retired from active farm life and moved to their present home on So. Washington Ave., where Mrs. Lewis passed away April 30, 1938, at 4:30 p.m. at the age of 71 years and one month.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband and five children, Mrs. Geneva Sanders, Mrs. Atta Christensen, Mrs. Mary Bernard, Mrs. Helen Jergenson and Carl R. Lewis, all living near Eagle Grove. One son, Geo. E. Lewis, preceded her in death, Oct. 24, 1935. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Viola Lewis who has been her constant companion for the past two and one-half years; 19 grandchildren, one sister, Miss Atta Ely, and one brother, G. E. Ely of Webster City, and several nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Lewis was of a quiet home loving disposition, and for the past several years, in spite of her failing health, she always enjoyed attending church services and meeting her neighbors and friends by whom she will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Wilson Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Roy Klopping, former pastor of the Open Bible church, in charge. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Pletcher of Valley Springs, S.D.; Miss Atta Ely, G. E. Ely and Mrs. John Ely of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lewis and son, F.F. Lewis, Howard, Lawrence and Mary Jane Lewis of Lakota; Mrs. Lee Potter and Hans Madison of Renwick.
