John Cattles, Sr. died at the home of his son John, east of Clarion, last Saturday afternoon, at the advanced age of eighty-six years. Since the death of his wife last December, Father Cattels has been steadily failing and for the past two weeks it was evident that he could not live long. Mr. Cattels was born in Yorkshire, Eng., in October 1821, and came to this country twenty-five years ago and settled on a farm near Springfield, Ill., where he lived five years before coming to Wright county, where he spent the remainder of his days. Mr. Cattels was a sturdy, industrious farmer, of the type that has done so much toward the building up and betterment of this country. He was a good neighbor, a kind and indulgent father. The funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. Spence and the remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery by the side of his wife, for whom he never ceased to mourn.

Passes Away Tuesday Evening, Her Seventy-Sixth Birthday.
Mrs. Elizabeth Cattels died Tuesday evening of this week at the home of her son John, east of town, after an illness of four days of pneumonia, Mrs. Cattels was born in Yorkshire, England, 70 years to a day before her death. When a child of ten she came with her parents to Canada, later moving to Sheffield, Ill., where she lived ten years. Twenty-five years ago she came with her husband to Wright county and settled at Eagle Grove, coming to this vicinity eighteen years ago. Of late years the aged couple have lived with their son John. Mrs. Cattels was a good, old fashioned mother—one of the best of God's creatures. Her life was quiet, but it was full of sunshine and good humor. She loved her home and the ones about her, and it was there that her presence was always a benediction and a blessing. Besides the aged husband, who is 85, four sons and one daughter are left to mourn. They are: John, cf Clarion; Benjamin, of Emmetsburg; William, of Salem, Ill., and Robert, of Wyoming. The daughter is Mrs. Lizzie Whipple, late of Kansas. The funeral services were held at the home yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Spence of the Methodist church. DEATH OF JOHN CATTELS
The entire community was shocked Monday morning upon hearing that John Cattels had died suddenly Sunday evening. While seated near the cook stove warming his feet he suddenly threw back his head and died without speaking a word or scarcely moving a muscle. Heart trouble, caused by a complication of diseases, was the cause of his death. Some three weeks ago Mr. Cattels had a severe attack of the grip, from which he partially recovered and was able to be up and around and his sudden and unexpected death came as a great shock to his family and friends.John Cattels was born in Canada forty-seven years ago and came to Eagle Grove in 1881. He lived
there six years then came to this place. On February 27, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Fox, of Woodbine, and to them two children were born, Hazel Mae, a bright little girl aged three years, and Clifton Eugene, a baby two months old. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge. He was known and respected by a large circle of friends He was an industrious and prosperous farmer, a good husband and a kind father. He is survived by his wife and two children, three brothers and a sister. One brother, William, resides in Salem, Ill., Robert in Wyoming and Ben in Emmettsburg. His sister, Mrs. T. S. Whipple, is a resident of this place. Ben came down from Emmetsburg, Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a good visit with his brother before taken away. Several relatives from a distance came to attend the funeral. They were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cattles, of Emmetsburg, Mrs. W. W. Dice, of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Frank Wells and Miss Ida Tuefel, of Eagle Grove. The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon and was attended by a large circle of sympathizing friends and neighbors. The services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Spence, of Ft. Dodge, who conducted the funerals of Mr. Cattles' parents a few years ago. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved wife and the little children who are thus deprived of the living ministrations of a devoted husband and father.Clarion Clipper - Clarion, Iowa
