Tollak Svensen Netland -- Thomas Svensen Netland

May 27, 1854 --- September 19, 1925

Thomas Netland was born in Norway, Europe, May 27, 1854 and died in Eagle Grove, Iowa Sept. 19, 1925, age 71 years 3 months and 23 days. He was married in 1878 to Miss Katherine Larson, and the family came to the U.S.A. to Sheldahl, Iowa in 1881. Later they moved to Eagle Grove, then to Thor, Iowa then to Thrall, Iowa, and back to Eagle Grove again.

Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Netland. Six have passed on before him. Seven children and Mrs. Netland remain to mourn his sudden death. The children who remain are Ben Netland of Larchwood. Iowa, Elmer Netland of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Mrs. Jennie Craig of Stanhope, Iowa, Mrs. Thelma Bjornson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Elida Folkedahl of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Tandrup Netland of St. Paul, Minn., and Myron Netland of Eagle Grove. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and by two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Netland was a faithful person. He entered the service of the C. & N. W. R. R. Co when he came to Sheldahl, Iowa in 1881 and remained faithful in that service for period of about 43 years, and was put on the company's pension list at the age of 70 a little over a year ago.

He was a member of the Lutheran church during his entire life. Funeral service were held from the home and the East Side Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Eagle Grove Eagle -- Eagle Grove, Iowa

December 20, 1856 --- December 20, 1932

Katherine Hausken was born in Karmøy, Haugesund, Norway, Dec. 20th, 1856 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Craig, near Stanhope, Iowa, Dec. 20th, 1932, age 76 years.

She was baptized into Christ Jesus in infancy, received instruction and confessed her Christian faith. As a young woman she found employment in Haugesund, where she was united in marriage to Thomas Netland. In 1881 the family emigrated to the U.S.A., coming to Sheldahl, Iowa and living there until 1888 when they came to Eagle Grove, where they lived almost continuously since. As Mr. Netland was employed as section foreman by the C. & N. W. R. R. about two years part of the time at Goldfield and part of the time at Thor.

Mr. Netland passed away from this life on September 17, 1925, at Eagle Grove. Mrs. Netland has been in failing health for several years, which condition she endured patiently. Thirteen children were born to them, seven passed away before the mother and six survive: Mrs. Jennie Craig, Stanhope; Ben Netland, Maple Hill; Tandrup Netland, Ft. Dodge; Elmer Netland, Eagle Grove; Myron Netland, Eagle Grove and Mrs. Elida Olson, Eagle Grove. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Netland was a quiet person much attached to her home. She loved her Savior very dearly, and strove earnestly to keep him in spite of the many temptations which come to us here in life.

Funeral services Thursday afternoon, December 22nd, 1932, from the Eagle Grove East Side Lutheran church of which she was a member for more than 40 years. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Rose Hill cemetery.

A young son of Thos. Netland, living near the Norwegian church, aged fourteen years, died Monday of quinsy, and was buried in the Rose Hill cemetery Tuesday afternoon.

Tandrup Netland, 57, a former resident of Eagle Grove, died at 2 p. m. Monday, in Portland, Oregon, as the result of an accident. Netland fell from a building where he was working last Friday. He was taken to a Portland hospital and passed away on Monday. Funeral services will be held in Portland. Relatives in the Eagle Grove area is Mrs. Albert Craig in Webster City. He is also survived by a brother, Mike Netland, in Portland.

October 13, 1886 --- January 28, 1954

Mr. Benjamin Lars Netland, whose death is regretted and mourned by his loved ones, family and friends, was born on October 13, 1886, in Sheldal, Iowa. He was the son of Thomas Netland and Katherine nee Husken Netland. He attended the public schools of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and as a youth he was received into the fellowship of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Eagle Grove through the rite of Christian Confirmation. On December 25, 1909, he was united in the bonds of marriage with Miss Mary Scheppler. This marriage was blessed in God's providence with four children.

Mr. Netland, or "Ben", as he was commonly known, worked for the railroad for a number of years and in 1934 Mr. and Mrs. Netland moved to Klemme where he was employed as section foreman on the Rock Island Railroad for thirteen years. In 1946 Ben became sick and had been in failing health until the time of his death. Mr. Netland had been a patient in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, prior to his death. Ben died on Thursday, January 28, 1954, having attained the age of 67 years, 3 months and 15 days.

Mourning his departure are his wife Mary, two daughters, Ethel (Mrs. Fred Sobek), Mary Lou (Mrs. Elmer Bachman) and one son, Mr. George Netland. He is also survived by two brothers, Mike Netland of Lebanon, Oregon, and Tandrup Netland of Portland, Oregon; and two sisters, Eleda (Mrs. William Olson) of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Jennie (Mrs. Albert Craig) of Webster City, Iowa. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Netland was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elmer, and sister Thelma and by one daughter, Irene.

Funeral Services at the Klemme Methodist Church, Klemme, Iowa, Monday, February 1, 1954, at 2:00 P. M., Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, in charge.
