It appears Emily Bernard is buried at St. Peter's Cemetery (French Church Cemetery) east of Vincent, Iowa, Secion 26, Woolstock Township, Wright County, Iowa. The records I have access to only give her name (along with several other Bernards) and the years 1840 - 1922. Since her husband died in 1920, it appears that your theory is right. Perhaps she went to Iowa to help with some grandchildren or to be with a daughter's family. The record regarding the cemetery does say that many of the gravesites are not marked with tombstones. Perhaps someone on FindAGrave would check for you next spring.
