In Response To: Flower and Mead Descendants (Marion Mead Studebaker)

William Scott Flower was born 16 February 1846 in Michigan. He died 5 January 1930 in Eagle Grove. He served in Co. B, 17th Iowa Infantry and Co. A, 31st Iowa Infantry. He enlisted on 17 October 1864 (age 18) and lived in Dubuque County, Iowa at the time. His units fought on 12 December 1864 at Savannah, Georgia; 05 February 1865 at Babbin's Plantation, South Carolina; and 20 March 1865 at Bentonville, North Carolina;

Since he was 18 and living in Dubuque County in 1864 perhaps he came there from Michigan with family members.

He married 7 March 1875 in Story County, Iowa to Mary Nelson (Story County Marriage Records). He received a Civil War Pension. I suggest that you obtain his pension file from the National Archives in Washington DC which should provide a lot of biographical information, including, hopefully, an exact place of birth in Michigan.

There is a "Scott Flower" born ca 1848 in Bruce Twp., Macomb Co. Michigan to William Flower and Phoebe Edgett but no proof that this is your ancestor or someone with a similar name.

Harry John Mead was born 3 May 1878 or 1879 in Webster County, Iowa and died 19 March 1927 in Eagle Grove. I believe that his parents are: William O. Mead (born ca 1854 Illinois) and Eliza J. ? (born ca 1853 New York); In the 1880 Washington Twp., Webster County, Iowa census, William and Eliza are enumerated with daughters Laura G. (born 1874 Iowa); Lula (born 1878 Iowa) and son Mead born ca May 1879. In the 1895 Wright County Iowa state census, Eagle Grove, Harry is listed as having been born in Webster County, Iowa.
