Dorothy A. (Munson) Henderson

Dorothy Henderson, 86, of Britt, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services for Dorothy Henderson will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Britt Zion Church of the Nazarene, 195 2nd Street Southwest in Britt, with Pastor Chris Burrell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation for Dorothy will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Dorothy Ann Munson was born on March 16, 1932 to Elmer and Delia (Brown) Munson in Boone County where she attended country school. She attended the Boone Free Methodist Church where she met Theodore (Ted) Henderson, who became her husband. They married on July 7, 1948. The couple raised two children. After entering the ministry they pastored Nazarene churches in Clarion, Climbing Hill, Britt, and Knoxville, Iowa. She enjoyed her life as a pastor’s wife playing the piano, teaching Sunday School and was active with world missions. After retirement they moved back to Britt and served the Wesley and Upper Flats Evangelical Free churches.

Dorothy and Ted took several trips including two memorable trips, one to Mackinac Island and one to the Holy Land. Dorothy loved her family and spending time with them, playing the piano, reading, and crafting.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis (Marcia) Henderson of Clive, Iowa and daughter, Brenda (Mike) Boomgarden of Britt, Iowa; grandchildren, Amanda Greiner of Waukee, Iowa, Alissa Arthur of Waukee, Iowa, Jason (Sarah) Boomgarden of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Misty (Jim) Travis of Newton, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Brinley, Beckham, Avery, Asher, Ted, Katherine, Timothy, Daymon, Morgan, Mattison; step great-grandchildren, James, Orlo, Ray, Kenny, Sean, Mike, Levi, and Jordan; step great great-grandson, Trent; brother, Paul Munson; sister, Nyla Hodges; sister-in-law Janet Olson, and many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, and brother Dean.
