Stanton Lewis, son of Herman and Anna (Rust) Brunes, was born on February 24, 1923 on the family farm near Goodell, and attended country school. Stan lived on his farm for 82 years before moving into Belmond in June 2005. On June 20, 1948, Stan was united in marriage to Helen Shelton at her parents’ house in Kanawha. The couple was blessed with three sons: Steven, Don, and Kevin.

Stan was a farmer all his life. He raised cattle, hogs, chickens, oats, hay, corn, and soybeans. He loved working on the farm and being in the field. He retired from farming when he was 90, but would still go out to the farm. Stan was a hard, dedicated worker. Stan picked up a new hobby when he moved to town – woodworking. He enjoyed building birdhouses and shelves. Stan was a member of the Belmond United Methodist Church. Stan loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Stan is survived by his wife of 68 years Helen Brunes; three sons Steven (LuAnn) Brunes of Belmond, Don (Christine) Brunes of Groton, SD, and Kevin (Suzan) Brunes of Klemme; five grandchildren Adam (Wendy) Brunes, Amber Crouch, Logan Brunes, Kristine (Heath) Anderson, and Jesse Brunes; eight great-grandchildren Lena, Haven, Cooper, and Sadie Brunes, Christine and Ashley Crouch, and Levi and Lucy Anderson; and numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters Ethel, Belva, and Annalee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Belmond United Methodist Church, Gateway Hospice, or donor’s choice of charity.
