Silas Peterson, Former Restaurant Man, Dead

Silas J. Peterson, a former resident and businessman in Britt, died at a hospital in Davenport at 9:30 p. m. Monday Jan 14, following a heart attack which he had suffered Friday. At death he had reached the age of 65 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Silas Joseph Peterson was born in Kendall county Illinois August 12, 1886 a son to Ole Peterson and the late Betsey Thorson Peterson. He came to Kanawha in 1915 and the following year the Peterson family came there from Illinois. Deceased operated the restaurants at both Corwith and Britt. He was employed by the Chevrolet Motors Company in Mason City several years prior to his going to Davenport ten years ago. At the time of his death he was working for the Geilmand Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of the Sew Gem sewing machines, at Rock Island Illinois. Mr. Peterson was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his early years. He is a veteran of World War I.

Surviving is the wife in Davenport, who is the former Ruthella Olson of Britt, who he married in 1925. There are five children: Darrell and Darlene (Twins), and Betty Jean all at home. Eugene Lee Peterson, who is in the U. S. Navy and stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, and Robert Peterson, of Clear Lake, a son by a former marriage. Others surviving are the aged father, Ole Peterson; three brothers, Bertram O., Edgar William and John Maurice; a sister Mrs. E. T. (Lillian) Murphy and her husband all of Britt. There is one nephew John Peterson at Britt. Deceased was preceded in death by his mother in 1948; two sisters, Esther in 1929 and Cora in 1951; and a brother Alvin in 1946.

Funeral services will be held Friday of this week, 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. The Rev. E. Walter Lindgren will be in charge of the last rites. Burial will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery at Britt.
