CYRUS GRIEWE SERVICES SET
Cyrus S. Griewe, 81, of 1625 Park St., Grinnell, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 2, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. James P. Russell officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Ell Township Cemetery at Klemme. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
The son of Fred C. and Mathilda Sampson Griewe, he was born Feb. 9, 1901, in Hancock County. He was a graduate of Morningside College at Sioux City and later did graduate work at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. He received a master's degree from the University of Colorado. He was married to Ada F. Omer on June 26, 1923, at Center Point. Mr. and Mrs. Griewe lived at Sutherland and Cleghorn where he was a math instructor, coach and principal. He later served as superintendent of schools at Sioux Center, Sibley and Sac City. Mr. Griewe retired in 1965, and he and his wife moved to Grinnell.
He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Occidental Lodge, AF & AM, No. 178, and a former president of the northwest district of the Iowa State Education Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ada; a son, Larry L. Griewe of Grinnell; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Opal Griewe of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dorothy Everds of Longview, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents.
