Lois L. Schlichting, age 91, of Belmond passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Lois L. Schlichting will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Dayspring Assembly of God Church on the hill in Belmond. Pastor Mark Pluff will officiate. Burial will be in the Amsterdam cemetery east of Goodell. Visitation for Lois L. Schlichting will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday November 23, 2015 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Lois Leona, daughter of Charlie and Jennie Gartz Barkema, was born on April 2, 1924 in Palsville where she grew up and attended country school. On May 15, 1943, Lois united into marriage with Glen Schlichting. The couple made their home southeast of Klemme where they were blessed with three sons: Wayne, Merlin, and Melvin. Lois united into marriage with Glen Pals on August 3, 1973. They made their home southeast of Klemme until moving to Belmond in 1987. Lois was a farmer’s wife. She helped out on the farm driving tractor, tending livestock, raising her sons, and being a blessed wife. Lois enjoyed the outdoors. She loved going camping and sitting by the bank fishing. She enjoyed many hours growing vegetables in the garden and planting flowers around her home. She enjoyed embroidering and playing bingo. She enjoyed taking trips to Texas for the winter. Family was most important and spending time with her grandchildren made her feel most blessed.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Jennie Gartz Barkema, three brothers; Lyle, Harold, Ed, two sisters; Eva, Emily, two husbands; Glen Schlichting and Glen Pals. Lois is survived by her threes sons: Wayne (Linda) Schlichting of Britt, Merlin (Kay) Schlichting of Britt, Melvin (Judy) Schlichting of Klemme, twelve grandchildren: Tracy of Kanawha, Steve (Laura) of Britt, Gina of Klemme, Brad of Britt, Mark (Katie) of Belmond, Jared of Garner, Scott (Sara) of Kanawha, Brenda of Britt, Angel (Lance) of Gallitin, MO, Ryan (Sara) of Lake Elmo, MN, Lisa (Tim) of Perry, Jason of Overland Park, KS, her youngest sister Marine, and 21 Great Grandchildren.
