Eldon Norman Janssen was born on October 25, 1933, on the family farm, the son of John William and Marie (Ihnen) Janssen. After receiving his education in country school, he moved with his family to a farm near Corwith, Iowa, where they continued to farm. He served in the United States Army from May 28, 1953, until his honorable discharge on May 27, 1955. He was united in matrimony with Eldora Poppen on January 11, 1959, at St. John Lutheran Church, Lizard Township, and they began a dairy herd that Eldon worked with until 2009. He was a charter member of what is now known as Faith Community Church and had held many positions within the church as well as at St. John Lutheran. He was also a faithful member of Gideon International.

Eldon is survived by his wife Eldora; his daughter Danette (Marvin) Nimke of Manson, IA; his son Mark (Lori) Janssen of Gilmore City, IA; grandchildren Angela (John) Sobotka, Travis (Nicole) Nimke, Aaron Janssen, Andrea (Nathan) Seely, Andrew Janssen; great grandchildren Jacalyn, Emma, Grace and Jacob Sobotka, and Marcus and Chance Seely, as well as brothers Vernon (Henrietta) Janssen of Ft. Dodge, IA, and Erwin (Myrna) Janssen of Palmer, IA.
