John Walker was born March 10, 1874, at Slater, Iowa., to parents Ivan and Susanne Walker. He was baptized in infancy, instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Slater, where he also attended the schools and lived his happy childhood life with his parents, brother and sister until 18 years of age, when, in 1892, he moved to Wright county, where he was occupied with farming till the spring of 1920. He died at his home on West Broadway, Eagle Grove, on January 25, 1937, at the age, of 62 years, 10 months and 16 days. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death some years ago.

On April 11, 1911, he was united in marriage to Lena Thompson of Holmes, Ia., and they made their home on the farm until the year 1920, when they moved to Eagle Grove, where he resided until his death. Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers and one sister, Mrs. Ole Berg of Eagle Grove, Amos of Des Moines and Andrew of Eagle Grove.

About 16 years ago Mr. Walker experienced a spiritual awakening, when he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, and continued steadfast in his faith till the end. He has finished his course and has entered into his rest. He was a dutiful and faithful member of his church, in which he served as trustee for many years. Mr. Walker was a man with clear convictions and a firm believer in Biblical conversion.

He was a loyal and peaceable citizen, modest and retiring in nature and made for himself many lasting friends and a lasting contribution to the church and community in which he lived. But most of all will he be missed by his beloved wife, to whom he was a good and loving companion.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the home and at the West Side Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske. He was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery.
