Audrey Mehl, 82, of Britt passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services for Audrey Mehl will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 East 3rd Street, in Kanawha, with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Audrey, the daughter of Fred and Grace Abbas, was born on May 17, 1929 in Kanawha, Iowa. She attended rural schools through eighth grade and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1946. She attended Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and taught in a country school west of Kanawha. She was married on June 16, 1949 to Norman Mehl, son of Edward and Anna Mehl, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Rhonda and Mary Ann. Audrey and Norman farmed in the Kanawha and Britt area, their last farm being near Stilson where they lived for 18 years. In 1977 they moved into Britt. Audrey and Norman began delivering motor homes for Winnebago Industries, which Audrey thoroughly enjoyed. They delivered to every state except Hawaii and to all of the Canadian Provinces.

Audrey was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her unconditional love and kind nature will be one of the many wonderful things that will be remembered about Audrey. There was always a pot of coffee on and a welcoming smile when friends and family came to the door. She loved music and enjoyed playing hymns on the piano. Audrey loved the Lord and was an active member in the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. Over the years she taught Sunday School, served on Ladies Aide and did visitation to the nursing home and the county home. Audrey’s last years of life were spent in the Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa. She was content there and was able to enjoy many of the activities. The employees at Westview often commented on her uncomplaining and kind nature.

Audrey leaves behind two daughters: Rhonda (Steve) Schwarze of Manila, Philippines, Mary Ann (John) Skoglund of Stillwater, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Rachel (DJ) Langefels, Carl Schwarze, Tara Jackson, Danny Skoglund, Megan Skoglund, Janine Skoglund; one great-grandson Tyler Jackson; brother Dennis (Jean) Abbas of Marshalltown, along with other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, step-mother, and two brothers, Donald and Jerry and sister-in-law Eleanor.
