A. O. Christenson Dies Tuesday, Services Today

Funeral services will be held for A. O. Christenson today (Thursday) at 1:15 p.m. at the Osman Funeral Chapel and 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in crystal Lake. burial will be in the family lot in Crystal cemetery at Crystal Lake. The Rev. Gerhard J. Hjelmaas will be in charge. Death came to A. O. Christenson at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital early Tuesday morning, Dec. 22, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 2 days. Mr. Christenson had been ill for some time.

Anton Otto Christenson waas born at Lolland, Denmark, April 20, 1871, a son to Hans and Karen Christenson. When he was eleven years old, the family--his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and himself came to that "Land of Plenty" arriving at Britt on August 19, 1882, the town then being only twelve years old. The Christenson family purchased through C. C., Way the quarter section of land north of Britt where the Jens Jenson family reside. There they established a home and prospered through all the hardships of those early days. Anton Christenson spent all the remaining years of his life in Hancock county, except two when he homesteaded some land in Redwood county, Minn., and while he operated a real estate and insurance business in Dows, Iowa. On Nov. 29, 1901, Anton Christenson married Hannah Johansen, who had come from Sweden when she was fifteen years old. Most of their married life was spent at Crystal Lake. Several years ago they sold their home there, and came to Britt, purchasing a home on West 5th Street. The couple observed their Golden wedding anniversary in November of 1951. Mrs. Christenson died June 22, 1952. Mr. Christenson was active in public affairs, having been a county supervisor six years, mayor of Crystal Lake 20 years, and Crystal township clerk for many years. he served as chairman of the board of directors of Crystal Creamery Company for some time. He was a member of the Evangelical Free church of Upper Flat, having united with that church in his early years.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Christenson were ten children, only three of whom are living. Lloyd and Calvin of the Crystal Lake vicinity, and a daughter, Mrs. H. (Lillie) Tiggeman of Mason city; a sister, Mrs. Albert (Tilda) Sonerholm, Britt; and eleven grandchildren also survive. Seven children preceded their parents in death, four infant sons, one nine months; two daughters, still young children; and a daughter, Mable, (Mrs. Glen Powers). His four brothers and one sister, Mrs. Jens Jensen, all preceded him in death.
