Mary Meyer, was born September 13. 1850, at Luebeke, Mein, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Luebeke. At the age of 25 years she and her sister [Mrs. Kuck] came to America. The two sisters found a home at an aunt's place in New Knoxville, Ohio. Here she met and married William Straatman. William and Mary Straatman spent their early married life on a rented farm near New Knoxville, Ohio. In 1893 they moved to a farm in Liberty Township, Hancock County, Iowa, where they remained for eighteen years before moving to Klemme. After Mr. Straatman's death, Mrs Straatman remained alone at her Klemme home, and then made her home with her married daughters. She died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Neimeyer. Internment was in the Klemme Cemetery.
