CORWITH - Funeral services will be held for Albert Louis Fish Sr. at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Corwith, with the Rev. Kim Gates and the Rev. Art Woodward officiating. Interment will be in Corwith Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 of Corwith. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Corwith, with a 7 p.m. A Masonic service conducted by the Prudence Lodge #205 A.F. & A.M. Memorials may be given to the Heart Association in his memory. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Corwith is in charge of arrangements.

ALBERT L. FISH SR., 77, was born in rural Corwith on July 29, 1923. His grandparents, Albert and Louise Fish, raised him in the Corwith and Hanlontwn areas. He attended school in the Hanlontown area. Albert served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1946 onboard the light cruiser, USS Philadelphia CL-41 during World War II. On July 28, 1944, Albert married Vera L. Fett in Corwith. To this union, five children were born. After his discharge from the Navy, Albert began farming in the Britt area, a career he loved. Albert's family moved back to the Corwith area in 1949, where he farmed until his retirement in 1976. In addition to farming, Albert also enjoyed fishing and attending his annual ship reunions with his World War II friends. Albert was a member of the Prudence Lodge #205 A.F. & A.M., Algona, and the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229, Corwith, serving as President of the Day at the Memorial Day Program for many years.

Albert died on Thursday (Nov. 23, 2000) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, after a lengthy illness. Family was very important to Albert. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Vera Fish; his children, Albert "Skip" Fish Jr. and his wife, Laura, Carol Niewald and her husband, Jack, Bryan Fish and his wife, Theresa, and Brett Fish and his wife, Lana, all of Corwith. Others that will mourn and miss Albert include 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell "Buck" VanZandt and his wife, Mary and Robert VanZandt and his wife, Mary, of Wisconsin; and one sister, Sharon Mina and husband, Dan, of California; as well as a host of other family, special grandkids and friends. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; son, Ronald Fish; grandson, Luke Fish; brothers, Clarence Fish and Roger VanZandt; and sister, Dorothy Armstrong.
