BRITT, IA — Vesta G. Pearce, 90, died Saturday (Oct. 3, 1998) at Westview Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Harlan Stenberg as officiant. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home.

Vesta G. Pearce, the daughter of Charles A. and Sadie Ellen (Woody) Mills, was born Nov. 24, 1907, near Effingham, Ill. At an early age she moved with her family to the Britt-Corwith area. She graduated from Corwith High School in 1926. On Jan. 28, 1929, she was married to Lyle Keith Pearce at the Congregational parsonage in Britt. They made their home in Britt the rest of their lives. In the early 1950s, Vesta started her own business in Britt, named Pearce's Flowers, which she operated until she retired in 1972.

She is survived by her sister, Ione McPhillips of Britt; and six nieces, Beth McConnell and her husband, John, of Grand Island, Neb., Lynne Petersen and her husband, Douglas, of Swaledale, Joanne Nelson and her husband, Terry, of Madison Lake, Minn., Jane McPhillips and her husband, Paul Sweet, of Des Moines, Raye Eyrich and her husband, Ron, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Patty Wanned of Sioux City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Pearce, on Dec. 14, 1994; her parents; and a brother-in-law, Thomas M. McPhillips.
