August 16, 1932 -- November 24, 2010

CORWITH, IA - James L. Wilhite was born on Aug. 16, 1932, on the family farm east of Corwith, the son of Earl and Carrie (Zeigler) Wilhite. He attended country school and graduated from Corwith High School in 1951. He served his country as part of the U.S. Army stationed in Japan. He returned to the family farm and continued to farm and work the land he loved.
On Aug. 7, 1968, he married the love of his life, Beverly (Nelson) Borg and became the beloved father of Vana and Keith. He adopted them as his own and rejoiced at the birth of another son, Keith, in March 1970. Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and later followed the Lord in believer's baptism. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church, Corwith, serving his Lord in various positions. His passion was farming and he loved being behind the wheel of the tractor and mower and working alongside his son. To Jim, no one was a stranger, everyone was his friend. It is apparent by the number of his friends that it was his desire to share the love of Christ by impacting the lives of those around him. He loved the local coffee crowd, playing dominoes and sharing his never ending sense of humor. He and Bev rarely missed a CWL Panther school event. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

James L. Wilhite was promoted to glory on Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2010) surrounded by his family at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. He was 78. Cherishing his memory are his wife, Beverly of Britt; children, Vana (Kevin) Kruger of Wesley, Kevin "Pete" (Bonnie) Wilhite of Corwith, and Keith (Tanya) Wilhite of Waukee; grandchildren, Nickolaus, Rebecka and Krista Kruger, Chelcee and Luke Wilhite, and Breanne and Carrie Wilhite. Also surviving are brothers, Robert (Alice) Wilhite of Russell, Merle (Darleen) Wilhite of Des Moines and Donald Wilhite of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Hilda Wilhite of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Carrie; brothers, Cecil, Kenneth and Orlan; sister-in-law, Mabel Wilhite; nephew, Rick Wilhite; and niece, Vicky Daniels.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at the Corwith Community Center in Corwith. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov, 27, at the Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne High School in Corwith with Pastor Greg Baum officiating. Burial will be in the Corwith Cemetery with military honors provided by the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post 229 of Corwith. Memorials may be directed to Hancock County Memorial Hospital Foundation in Britt. Oakcrest Funeral Services – Corwith,
