August 15, 1913 -- June 15, 2000

CORWITH, IA - Esther Emeline Fatka, 86, died Thursday (June 15, 2000) at Muse Norris Inpatient Care Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Corwith, with Pastor David Babcock and Pastor Caroline Engelbrecht officiating. Interment will be in Corwith Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith.

Esther Emeline Fatka was born on Aug. 15, 1913, at Plymouth, to Carson B. and Hulda Rose Howell. She received her education in Plymouth, graduating from Plymouth High School in 1931. Esther then attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for one year. Esther was a substitute teacher for a time. On Aug. 28, 1934, Esther was married to Harold Frank Fatka at Plymouth. The couple moved to Corwith in 1934. Esther assisted her husband in the operation of several businesses in Corwith, including the local hardware store for 22 years and the lumberyard for 15 years. Esther was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith, where she played the organ for nearly 30 years. She enjoyed music and flower gardening. Esther and Harold spent their winters in Texas for 28 years. Esther belonged to the Corwith Community Club and the Iowana Club. She and Harold were former Grand Marshals for the annual Town and Country Days Celebration in Corwith.

Esther's husband, Harold, preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1999. Esther became a resident of the Good shepherd Home in Mason City in 1999. Esther is survived by her sister, Alta Bonker, Mason City; and her cousins, Luella Bouck, Mason City, Flo Butler, Omaha, Neb., and Dorothy Brunsvold, Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and one brother, Clarence Bonker. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.
