Roland E. Hankins was born December 9, 1930, in Corwith, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Marguerite (Meyers) Hankins. He grew up in Corwith where he attended school, graduating from Corwith High School. In 1948, Roli moved to Dayton, Iowa, where he ran the lockers in Harcourt and Dayton for his father. On December 7, 1951, Roli was united in marriage to Juanita Peterson in Ogden, Iowa, at the United Methodist Church. After their marriage the couple stayed in Dayton where Roli continued to run the locker’s and began trucking part-time on nights and weekends. The couple moved to Corwith in 1954 where Roli started farming and began Hankins Trucking and Shelling. In the early 1980’s Roli quit shelling and began doing some trucking for Pioneer Hi-Bred International while continuing his truck line and farming. Roli enjoyed being with his family, fishing and recently began playing dominoes. He was a member of the Corwith United Methodist Church, on the Board of Directors of the Corwith State Bank for 33 years and past president of the community effort known as the Corwith Professional Building.

Roli died on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa, at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Juanita of Corwith, Iowa; children, Judy Hankins of Boone, Iowa; Mike Hankins and wife Sharon of Corwith, Iowa; Jan and husband LaVerne Hansen of Harlan, Iowa; Dan Hankins and wife Mary of Johnston, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Spencer, Stephanie and Shawna Hankins, Dustin Hansen, Jon, Jill and Taylor Hankins; three step grandchildren: Chris Hansen, Scott Christianson and Amber (Christianson) Caquelin and one great-grandchild, Skylar Bronson. Also surviving are brothers, Verle and Doreen Hankins of Arizona; Dave Hankins of Hawaii and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Sharon.
