ALBERT CITY — Karen “Kay” Hauge Franzmeier, age 73, of Albert City, Iowa, died Monday, October 29, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. Services for Mrs. Franzmeier will be held on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Albert City. Reverend David Bernhardt will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Corwith Cemetery at Corwith, Iowa on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may call on Thursday, November 1, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, where the family will be present.
Karen Jeannette Hain, the daughter of Thomas and Inez (Bogard) Hain, was born at Corwith, Iowa, on September 27, 1934. Karen lived her youth and received her education at Corwith, graduating from Corwith High School. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Corwith. Karen was united in marriage to Bob L. Hauge on June 11, 1960, at Fort Dodge, Iowa, and this couple was blessed with three children: Brent, Julie, and Rhonda. Bob and Karen resided for 29 years in Fort Dodge where Karen had been employed as a bank teller, worked for Land O’ Lakes, and she had also operated a daycare in her home. While residing in Fort Dodge, Karen attended the Fort Dodge campus of Buena Vista University and received her bachelor’s degree in education. After Bob and Karen moved to Albert City in 1989, Karen was employed as a Spanish teacher in the Sioux Central and Albert City school districts from 1989 until her retirement from education in 1999. Bob died on February 21, 1999. Karen was united in marriage to Edwin Franzmeier on November 1, 2003 in Albert City. Edwin died on October 10, 2006. Karen was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Albert City. Karen’s interests included gardening, playing cards, socializing with her friends, teaching, and playing the slot machines. She also served on the library board and was an election officer. Family was very important to Karen and spending time with her grandchildren was always special to her. Those who will always cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Elizabeth Hauge of Graettinger, Iowa; her daughter, Rhonda Hauge of Fort Dodge, Iowa; her grandchildren: Meghann Kincaide of Rockford, Illinois; Tyler, Jaecy, and Kailee Hauge of Graettinger, Iowa; her great-granddaughter, Ni’Caela Rowland of Rockford, Illinois; other relatives, and many friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, and her daughter, Julie Dea (Hauge) Dieterman on February 26, 2004. Karen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
