Burt, IA— Carolyn Sheets, 74, of Burt passed away Monday, August 14, 2006 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. Funeral services for Carolyn Sheets will be held Friday, August 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Pastor Robin L. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church.
Carolyn, the daughter of George and Annie Jurgensen Campbell, was born September 21, 1931, at Corwith. She attended school in Corwith graduating from Corwith High School in 1950. Following graduation from high school, Carolyn attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota where she received her LPN nursing degree. On February 3, 1952, Carolyn was united in marriage with Charles S. Sheets in Corwith. The couple was blessed with four children: Leon, Joyce, Calvin and Ester.
Charles and Carolyn farmed land in the Crystal Lake and Hutchins area until Charles’ death in 1986. Charles and Carolyn enjoyed polka dancing. Following her husband’s death, Carolyn worked with children with disabilities in Forest City; moving to Burt in 1987 to work at Exceptional Opportunities until her retirement in 2001. Carolyn loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their school and 4-H events. She enjoyed gardening, traveling; the most memorable being trips to Alaska, being in Boston with classmates on 9-11, and collecting Campbell’s memorabilia.
Survivors include three children; Leon Sheets and his wife, Barbara, Ionia, Joyce Charlson and her husband, David, Clarion, and Ester Nelson and her husband, Bruce, New Brighton, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Jarrod Sheets, Justina Sheets, Austin Charlson and his wife, Angela, Everett Charlson and his wife, Katy and one brother Wayne Campbell and his wife Virginia of Rock Rapids. Preceding her in death was her parents; brother, Merle in infancy; husband, Charles and son, Calvin.
