KANAWHA, IA – Delores M. (Holmquist) Kudej, 89, of Clarion, formerly of Kanawha, died Saturday (Aug. 21, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug, 25, 2010, at the Ewing Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St., in Kanawha, with Pastor Janelle Siffring officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Visitation will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Ewing Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St. in Kanawha. KANAWHA, IA - Delores M. Kudej, 89, of Clarion, formerly of Kanawha, passed away Saturday (Aug. 21, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient in Mason City. Funeral services for Delores Kudej will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St., in Kanawha, with Pastor Janelle Siffring officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services today, Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Delores, the daughter of John P. and Effie (Housberg) Holmquist was born on April 9, 1921, in Fort Dodge. She attended school in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1932. She then attended Waldorf College in Forest City and Mason City Community College. Delores was employed at Tobin Packaging in Fort Dodge. During World War II, Delores worked for the U.S. Army in Denver, Colo. Following the war, she returned to Fort Dodge and was employed at the City Hall in Fort Dodge. On Dec. 15, 1959, Delores was united in marriage with Merle Kudej in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home on the farm near Kanawha until 1982, when they retired and moved into Kanawha. Delores has resided at the Meadows in Clarion for the last five years. Delores was a member of Kanawha Lutheran Church. At one time she was very active in the Federated Women's Club. Delores was interested in education and helping young people further their education. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and gambling.

Several nieces and nephews and numerous friends survive Delores. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Merle, in 1983. Memorials can be made payable to Kanawha Lutheran Church, Kanawha Public Library, or Kanawha Fire Department and sent to Matthew F. Berry, P.O. Box 187, Clear Lake, IA 50424. Ewing Funeral Home.
