CORWITH, IA - Dennis Benedict Foley was born June 16, 1937, in Thor, Iowa, son of Harry and Elizabeth (Mettile) Foley. Dennis grew up in Corwith and graduated from Corwith High School in 1955. Dennis had a great love for his country. He served in the United States Army for 30 years, 21 of those years overseas, until retiring in 1986. Dennis was stationed one tour in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam. He served as an Engineer and a Drill Sergeant and was a decorated hero receiving the Bronze Star as his highest award. Dennis moved back to Corwith in 1994. He loved old cars, especially Buick's. He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting old clocks and pocket watches. He loved playing pool, watching TV game shows, and gardening, especially raising tomatoes.

Dennis B. Foley died Saturday (March 10, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, at the age of 63. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Corwith with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Corwith. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Tracie Foley, Corwith; four children, David Foley, Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Jim Foley, Heidelberg, Germany, Joe Foley, Biloxi, Miss., and Shawn Foley, Corwith; two step-children, Phillip and Kimberly; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah, Angel, Barry, Dennis, Britany, Michael, and Alex; two sisters, Pat Boysen, Grand Island, Neb., and Mary Schutjer, Wesley; one brother, Bud Foley, Corwith; his loving dog, Stratford on Avon "Ford"; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Michael Foley. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.
