9 January 1885 -- 29 November 1959

Louis Helmuth, son of Edward and Mary Arnold Griffen, was born in Liberty Township, Hancock County, Iowa, January 9, 1885. He grew to adulthood and lived in Liberty Township until he moved into Klemme nine years ago. He passed away in the hospital in Belmond, Iowa, November 28, 1919, after many months of illness. Mr. Griffen was reared in a Christian home and was for many years an active and faithful member of Immanuel United Church of Christ (Evangelical and Reformed) of Klemme. He was a member of the Building Finance Committee at the time of his death. On October 21, 1908, he was united in marriage with Emma Caroline Schlawin. Three daughters were born to their union. They lived on a farm in Liberty Township until they retired nine years ago and moved into their present home which they had built in Klemme.

Survivors in the immediate family are his wife, Emma; the daughters, Mabel of the home, Mrs. John (Lida) Eenhuis of Klemme, Mrs. Fred (Gladys) Olthoff of rural Garner; two grandsons; five granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. Ben F. Greimann of Garner; one half-brother, Albert Lange of Klemme; and one half-sister, Mrs. Elva Chase of Mason City. Many other relatives and a host of friends also survive.
