Glenn A. Schlawin, 86, of Garner, died on Thursday, August 1, 2002, at the Concord Care Center, Garner. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 3, at the Peace Reformed Church, with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Music was provided by organist, Connie Greiman who accompanied congregational hymns. Ushers were Jerry Kropp and Bill Katter Sr. Casket bearers were Elwin Etchen, Craig Schlawin, Dean Stromer, Scott Ollenburg, Dan Ollenburg and Jim Jorgensen. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner was in charge of the arrangements.

Glenn Alfred Schlawin, the son of Reinhold and Esther (Greiman) Schlawin, was born on July 15, 1916, on a farm southwest of Klemme. He attended the rural schools of Hancock County. Glenn farmed with his family and helped other farmers in the area. On August 3, 1946, he married Kathleen Mercedes Felland at the Peace Reformed Church south of Garner.

GARNER - Glenn A. Schlawin, 86, of Garner, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at the Concord Care Center in Garner. His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Peace Reformed Church, with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Glenn Alfred Schlawin, the son of Reinhold and Esther (Greiman) Schlawin, was born July 15, 1916, on a farm southwest of Klemme. He attended the rural schools of Hancock County. Glenn farmed with his family and helped other farmers in the area. On Aug. 3, 1946, he married Kathleen Mercedes Felland at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. They farmed north of Hayfield for 10 years and then moved into Garner. Glenn worked as a mechanic for Elmer Urich in Garner and at River City International in Mason City until he retired in 1980. Glenn moved to Concord Care Center in December 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Peace Reformed Church and the National Rifle Association.

Glenn is survived by his three children, Monty Schlawin and his wife, Darcia, of Garner, Sherry Bird, of Clear Lake and Gregory Schlawin and his wife, Julie, of Garner; seven grandchildren, Shannon Schlawin Thill and her daughter, Shelby, David Bird and his wife, Marie, and their two children, Ashley and Andrew, Steven Bird and his wife, Jennifer, and their two children, Katie and Kory, Matthew Bird, Heath Hathaway, Jenna Schlawin and Dustin Schlawin; a brother, Kenneth Schlawin, of Garner; a sister-in-law, Nadine Schlawin, of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, Oct. 8, 1996; his parents; and two brothers, Virgil and Wayne Schlawin. Cataldo Funeral Home.
