LAKE MILLS, IA - Stanley M. Hope, 83, of Lake Mills passed away Thursday (June 10, 2010) at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15,at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 14, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Crystal Lake Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Mercy Foundation in Mason City, or the family.

Stanley Marvin Hope was born Oct. 25, 1926, to Ingeborg and Oscar Hope near Woden. He was baptized at Grant Lutheran Church, Woden, and confirmed at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church, Forest City. He attended schools in Hancock and Winnebago counties, and Fertile High School. On Feb. 24, 1947, Stanley was united in marriage with Betty Murley at Kanawha Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Scarville and Britt area. He also was employed by Winnebago County Road Maintenance for 23 years. Stanley was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed the fellowship and competition of numerous bowling leagues. A lifelong dream came true when Stanley and Betty made a trip to Norway to visit his parents' homeland.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Maury (Linda) Hope of Ankeny; daughter, Kris (Dale) Olson of Ames; grandchildren, Chad Olson, Cory Olson, Matthew Hope and Stephanie Summy; six great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Olson, of Forest City; brother, Obed, of Mason City; brother, George of Ogden; sister-in-law, Clara Warren, in California as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
