CORWITH -Funeral services for Phyllis Ilene Sloan, 84, of Corwith, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Corwith, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will be in the Corwith Cemetery, Corwith. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Corwith.

Phyllis Ilene Sloan, daughter of Paul and Martha (McCutcheon) Pardun was born on Sept. 2, 1925, on a farm north of Holmes, Iowa. She attended a rural grade school and high school in Clarion, and graduated in 1944. After graduation, she worked at a restaurant in Clarion, helped out on the farm and assisted in the care of her ill father. On March 16, 1952, Phyllis was married to Glenn Sloan at the Presbyterian Church in Clarion. The couple resided on a farm southeast of Corwith, where they raised their family. Phyllis was a member of the Corwith United Methodist Church and was involved in the Church Circle. In the community, Phyllis participated in Homemakers Club and a Birthday Club. Her most enjoyable activities were knitting, crafts, gardening and especially cooking and baking.

Phyllis died on Sunday (Nov. 29, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, at the age of 84. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Glenn, of Corwith; two sons, Scott and wife, Jennifer, of Corwith, and Jeff and wife, Mary, of Littleton, Colo.; and one daughter, Beth Howard and husband, Richard, of Edwards, Colo. Also surviving are grandchildren, Emily, Jared, Nathan, Meghan, Stuart and Tyler. Additionally, she has one sister, Pauline Lester, of Ventura; as well as several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Connie. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.
