Kanawha, Iowa - Tom Delger, 84, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge. Services will be 10:30 a.m., today at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, Kanawha, with the Rev. G. David Daley officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha, with full military rites by Kanawha American Legion Serverson Post 77. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services today at the church. Survivors include wife Delia, Kanawha; daughter Virginia Christians, Kanawha; sons, Timothy, Des Moines, and Paul, Kanawha; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harm and Gertie Klap Delger, brother Curtis and two grandchildren.

Tom Delger was born Sept. 13, 1915, in Forreston, Ill. He moved with his family to the Kanawha area where he attended country schools. In 1940, he married Delia VanderPloeg. They lived in Kanawha. In 1843 (sic), he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served as a rifleman and truck driver with the 14th Infantry Regiment during battles in central Europe. After his discharge in 1946, he drove the Standard Oil delivery truck and then operated the Standard Oil Station for 39 years. In 1986, he retired. He was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, treasurer at Kanawha Christian School and served one term on the Kanawha City Council.
