DEATH OF MRS. BARBARA CRAFT

Mrs. Barbara Craft passed away at her home Tuesday morning at 7:45, after an illness of five weeks. She suffered a stroke of paralysis, which affected her right side and from the very first her condition was regarded as serious. Mrs. Craft came to Monon and entered the dry goods and ladies' wearing apparel business in 1886 and her success was pronounced throughout her career. Those who knew the methods with which she transacted business will verify the statement that honesty and absolutely fair dealings were attributes of her large patronage. Some years ago she retired from active work in the store, and turned the business over to her daughter Miss Goldie Craft who has successfully continued the business. During her illness she was tenderly and affectionately cared for by her two children and other near relatives, and every comfort and aid was offered her in her last days. In the passing of Mrs. Craft, Monon has lost another of her prominent citizens and the home a devoted and loving mother.

Barbara Theresa Haan was born in Germany August 1, 1849. At 4 years of age she came with her parents to America, where they made their home on a farm between Lowell and Crown Point. She was united in marriage to Morgan Craft, of Lowell, April 27, 1876. She was a member of the Christian church at Lowell, Ind. She passed away June 28, 1927, leaving to mourn her, one son, Charles, one daughter, Goldie; two brothers, Dr. George Haan, of Aurora, Ill., John Haan, of Grundy Center, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Conner, of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Kate Campbell, of Goldfield, Iowa.

The funeral was conducted at the home yesterday afternoon at 2: 30, with Rev. L.H. Ice, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge of the services. Burial was made in the Bedford cemetery where her husband is laid to rest. Business houses in town showed their respect for Mrs. Craft's long career in business here by closing during the funeral hour.

[sister of Katherine (Haan) Campbell of Goldfield, Wright County, Iowa]
