KANAWHA — Gordon N. Osby, 79, of Kanawha, passed away on Wednesday (Dec. 14, 2005) at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services for Gordon Osby will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Kanawha Lutheran Church with Janelle Siffring, AiM officiating. Burial will take place in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. Friends may greet the family from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Gordon, the son of Edmund and Margaret Eliason Osby, was born June 7, 1926, and was a life-long resident of Kanawha. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, and learned the trade of diesel machinist. Following his discharge in 1945, Gordon was employed by E.H. Nelson International Implement, and then local John Deere dealerships. On June 3, 1951, Gordon married Lucille Anderson at the Kanawha Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Kanawha and were blessed with three children. Gordon loved spending time with his family and friends. He and Lucille were quite the team bowling and dancing. In retirement, Gordon enjoyed gardening and golfing. Gordon was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church, the Kanawha American Legion, VFW and the Kanawha volunteer firemen.

Gordon is survived by his devoted wife, Lucille, of Kanawha; children: Gary and wife, Terry, of Atlantic, Cheryl Rietema and husband, Dennis, of Hanford, Calif., James and wife, Lisa, of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren: Marc (Kelly), Joel, Kristy (Aaron), Kyle, Natalie, Collin, Christian; four great-grandsons; sister, Lois Goeman and husband, Don, of Belmond; brother, Eugene Osby of Des Moines; brother, Paul Osby of Council Bluffs; and sister, Marlys Wicks and husband, Larry, of Kanawha; numerous nieces; nephews; and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-in-law: Betty Osby and Beverly Osby. Ewing Dugger Funeral Home.
