Cora Korte, 93, of Kanawha, died Sunday (June 23, 1996) at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Evangelical Free Church, Britt, with the Rev. Bill Culbertson officiating. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake. Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ewing Funeral Home, Kanawha. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services at the church today.

Cora Korte was born Nov. 23, 1902, in Woden. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Krominga of Mora, Minn., and Lillian Miller of Banning, Calif.; two sons, Fred Korte of Arlington, and Jim Korte of Kanawha; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one sister and two grandchildren.

Cora Korte, 93, passed away Sunday, June 23, 1996, at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home in Kanawha, Iowa.

Cora, the daughter of Jacob and Fannie (Abbas) Lutjens, was born on November 23, 1902, in Woden, Iowa. She grew up in Woden where she attended country schools.

On December 30, 1922, Cora was united in marriage with Fred Korte. They lived on a farm between Woden and Crystal Lake. In 1962, she moved to Britt where she worked at the nursing home and hospital until she retired. She then lived for a time in an apartment in Kanawha before moving to the nursing home in 1988. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life. Cora was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Britt and the Legion Auxiliary in Kanawha.

She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Krominga of Mora, MN; Lillian Miler of Banning, CA; two sons, Fred and his wife, Norma of Arlington, IA; Jim and his wife, Wendy of Kanawha, IA; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son – Carel Korte, one sister – Jennie Huisinga, two grandchildren, Dudley and Keith Korte and a son-in-law – Ray Krominga.
