GOODELL, IA --Services for Henry Brede, 106, of Goodell, who died Tuesday (Dec. 19, 1995) at the Belmond Health Care Center, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Goodell with the Rev. Jerry Robertson as officiant. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Henry Brede, the son of Daniel and Wildelmina (Schmidt) Brede, was born May 29, 1889, on a farm near Potosi, Wis. At an early age the family moved to the Garner area where Henry attended the Woiwood Country School until the fifth grade. At the age of 16, he was confirmed at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. On Sept. 15, 1909, he was united in marriage to Kerstina Fredericka "Carrie" Anderson in the Anderson home by the Rev. Joseph Tom. The couple moved to North Dakota and then returned to Garner in 1918 where they rented a farm two miles east of Garner. In 1929, they purchased a farm near Goodell which the family moved to in 1932 and continues to own today. After his wife's death in December 1971, he continued to farm until 1975. In 1980, he moved to Nashua, N.H,. where he lived for four years. In 1984, he moved to St. Charles where he lived until the early '90s when he moved to the Belmond Nursing Home. During his lifetime, Henry worked at a variety of jobs, including the ownership and operation of a portable skating rink, threshing crew, farmer, painter, harness maker and carpenter. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the United Presbyterian Church while living in Garner. In 1932, they changed their church membership to the United Brethren Church in Goodell which later became the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

He is survived by two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Nuehring-Sheriff-Brede of Goodell and Norma Jean Hill-Brede of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren, Judith Arlene McClure and her husband, Dale, of St. Charles; Delwyn Dale Brede of Glenwood; Stephen K. Brede and his wife, Deanna, of Hollis, N.H.; Denyce Kay Petrini and her husband, Edward, of Hollis, N.H.; Robert Anthony Brede and his wife, Linda, of Shell Rock, and Deborah Pollack of Foster City, Calif; a former daughter-in-law, Virginia Ann Brede; 15 great-grandchildren, Richard Earl McClure, Joyce Ann Koerner, Gieselle Fest, Gregory Brede, Georgia Ipsen, Gordon Brede, Ginger Pietz, Laurie Richardson, Todd Brede, Matthew Foust, Robert Brede, Rick Brede, Jody Evans, Carla Evans and Scott Evans; and 18 great-great-grandchildren, Christa Ramsey, Nicholas Koerner, Christopher Koerner, Matthew Larson, Kerstina Fest, Jacob Brede, Cassandra Brede, Kyle Olson, Joseph Ipsen, Chad Henry Brede, Dallas Brede, Dakota Brede, John Evans, Justin Evans, Anthony Evans, Eric Richardson, Scott Richardson
and Lindsey Evans.
