Eugene Orville (Gene) Smidt, son of Ole and Cora Smidt, passed away at his farm home near Kanawha, Iowa Wednesday evening, June 11, 1975, following a heart attack. He was born February 4, 1929 in Britt, Iowa and was 46 years, 4 months and 7 days of age at the time of his death. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. He received his education in the Kanawha schools and was married to LaVonne Holck November 22, 1951 in the home they were now living in west of Kanawha. He entered service in 1951, receiving his honorable discharge in 1953. He was a member of the Britt American Legion Post 315. He had farmed in the Kanawha area most of his life and was a member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Smidt is survived by his wife LaVonne Smidt of Kanawha, Ia.; 3 sons, Paul, Bruce and Dennis, and 1 daughter Sherrie, all at home; his mother, Cora Smidt of Kanawha, Ia.; 1 brother, Lawrence Smidt of Britt, Ia.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jack (Leona) Smith of Diamond Bar, Calif. and Mrs. Jim (Dorothy) Guida of Cobina, Calif.; nieces and nephews, many relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
