Services Saturday for Ada Assink

Ada Annette (Eekhoff) Assink passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007. Visitation will be at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel here from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2. The funeral services will be at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., March 3, 2007.

Ada, daughter of Henry and Louisa (Reikens) Eekhoff, was born Jan. 30, 1920 at Wellsburg. At the age of four, the family moved to a farm southwest of Kanawha in Wright County. She attended country school and Boone Valley High School. Ada made her profession of faith at the Wright Christian Reformed Church. Ada was united in marriage to Henry Assink on Aug. 25, 1949. The couple farmed southwest of Kanawha until 1982 when they moved to town. She was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid, Sunday School and Bible studies, Family and friends were important to Ada. She enjoyed volunteer work and will be remembered for her homemade pies, pillowcase dolls and playing games.

Family members are Lois and Ivan Van Dusseldorp of Platte, SD; Rachel and Vincent Mutambuki of Des Moines; Mark Van Dusseldorp of Platte, SD; and Ruth Van Dusseldorp of Platte, SD.; Kathy Doezema of Belding, MI; Sarah and Jeff Schatz of Canton, MI; Jason Doezema of Kalamazoo, MI; Taylor Toman; and Joel Doezema of Belmond, MI; Sue and John Hellenga of Kanawha; Aaron and Mary Ann Hellenga of Grimes; Nate and Libby Hellenga of West Des Moines; Hannah Hellenga and Anna Hellenga of Pella; and Noah Hellenga and fiancée Kayla Miller; Jan and Doug Ziegler of Adel; Josh and Jessie Ziegler; Jude and Jett Ziegler of Adel; and Justin Ziegler of West Des Moines.

Ada’s family also includes brothers – Harold and Ordie Eekhoff, George and Helen Eekhoff, Paul and Jen Eekhoff and Harlan and Deloris Eekhoff. Sisters-in-law – Annette Eekhoff, Viola Eekhoff and Dorothy Eekhoff. Other family members – Paul and Dorothy Assink, Carolyn Ruth Veldhouse, Nettie Assink and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry; her parents; three brothers – Pete, John and Ray; and three nephews – Mike, Tim and Steve Eekhoff.
