KANAWHA - Pete W. Eekhoff, 83, of Kanawha passed away Thursday (March 22, 2007) at the Kanawha Community Home. Funeral services for Pete Eekhoff will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday (March 26, 2007) at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today (March 25, 2007) at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church.

Pete, the son of Rev. Peter and Marie Johnson Eekhoff, was born in Grundy Center, Iowa, attended many different schools and graduated from East High School in Waterloo. After graduation, Pete worked for his brother, Herman, and it was there he met the love of his life, Henrietta Delger. They were married Dec. 29, 1943, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. They farmed one year at Corwith. In 1945 they moved to a farm 2 ½ miles west of Kanawha, which they later purchased. In 1986, their son, Perry, took over the farm and they moved to Kanawha. On Feb. 17, 2005, Pete moved to the Kanawha Community Home because of ill health.
Besides farming, Pete loved to bowl, fish and spend the winter months in Arizona. In 1999, due to Pete's failing health, they sold their home in Arizona. Pete was an active member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, serving as deacon and elder, and he and Henrietta were Young People Leaders for many years. He also served as treasurer of the church and taught Sunday school and catechism. He loved kids and teenagers and drove the Kanawha School bus for 20 years. He was known as a big tease and played many tricks on the school kids and was noted for giving treats. He loved sports and they never missed a game.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His main concern was the spiritual welfare of his family. Pete leaves behind his beloved wife, Henrietta, to whom he was married 63 years. His passing is also mourned by his four children and their spouses: Dr. Judy Eekhoff and husband, Bruce Pollock, Janice and husband, Ken Eliason, Perry and his wife, Ellie, and Kelvin and his wife, Barbara. He also leaves nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Wiert Eekhoff; two sisters, Stella (Mrs. Les) Neymeyer and Thelma Maud and husband, K. Mills; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Peter and Marie Eekhoff; father and mother-in-law, Kort and Alice Delger; brother, Herman and his wife, Elsie; two brothers-in-law, Kort Delger Jr. and Les Neymeyer; and sister-in-law, Esther (Mrs Wiert) Eekhoff.
