Funeral of H. Veldhouse Is Held Today

The community was saddened when it became known Tuesday afternoon that H. Veldhouse had passed away following a brief sickness with bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Veldhouse was well known in this community. He was formerly a member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church and while residing in Kanawha was a member of the local church of the same denomination. A few years ago he purchased the house directly west of the church, desiring to attend the services as often as possible in the declining years of his life. Although afflicted with bodily ailments, he was quite regular in church attendance up to the time of his recent sickness. As the time of his departure drew nearer, he spoke about his desire to leave and gave assurance that he trusted in his Savior. Mr. Veldhouse was a kind and providing father and his departure is felt keenly by his children and also by his many friends and acquaintances.

H. Veldhouse was born in Bellingwolde, Province Groningen, of the Netherlands, August 22, 1848. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Sapp in 1870. In 1884, he with his wife and four children migrated to America, making their home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Eight years later he moved to Wright county, where he resided on the farm southwest of Kanawha. After the death of his wife he left the farm and made his home in Kanawha, where he spent the last eight years of his life with his son. He was summoned from this earthly life by the hand of death January 7, 1929 at 12:30 p.m. having attained the age of 80 years, 4 months and 15 days.

His demise is mourned by his five sons: Nick, Philip, Heiko, Ray and John, and by two daughters: Mrs. Harry Peters and Mrs. Rasmie Christensen; also 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild. His wife and two grandchildren have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Reformed Church, conducted by the Rev. D. H. Plesscher. Interment was made in the Kanawha cemetery.
